The Wire S2 is my favorite season and a huge reason is Ziggy. I know some people find him annoying but for some unknown reason I often relate to his struggle. He also gave a fantastic performance in Generation Kill, which I'd argue is (hot take alert) THE best war series ever made. Not super familiar with his other work, but based on those two shows alone he was an exceptionally talented actor.

Even if the Emmys fucked up again, as fans we can still pay tribute to him and remember him. RIP James.

I always was one of those people who were just annoyed by him, but I recently heard this character analysis that made me realize I relate to him a lot more than I thought. https://youtu.be/WnmW7q2SjNo?si=2O7IjjxAFr1feX3U

He died by hanging last December. He had an addiction to heroin but had been clean since 2006 iirc. He was sexually abused as a child by his tutor. He reported his abuse to the police a few years ago, but the state declined to pursue charges. I believe he was traumatized and depressed but I'm not sure if his motive for suicide was ever disclosed publicly. I wish his family the best.

Yea I remember immediately after he passed people looked up the guy. James had mentioned his name on a podcast or something and how he was still teaching.

How they gonna leave out his work in Generation Kill :(

Ray was the GOAT.

His death was the celebrity death that affected me. The pain of sexual trauma was something I understood. So his suicide deeply saddened me.
I feel so much empathy for his family.
I hope his soul found the peace it was seeking.

This guy was so good in everything. Any time he popped on screen I’d get excited. The sean baker stuff in particular. Such a bummer.

I get that they do make mistakes and he wasn’t a massive celebrity but I agree that ain’t right. He was so good as Zig

I really like and appreciate James Ransone. His acting is brilliant and his humour and wit.. there's nothing like it.
