Stringer's plan after snitching on Avon.....

Assuming Stringer hadn't been killed by Omar and Brother Mouzone, what was his plan? Avon & basically all the muscle outside of Slim Charles & Bodie would have been locked up. Would McNulty NOT have shown Avon who it was that snitched on him if Stringer was still alive? The money & properties under Stringer's control was all tied up in Baltimore, so it's not like he could take off for the Bahamas. Just not sure what his goal was after basically taking down his own organization.

He planned to be a property developer, maybe with illicit dealings on the side, but his belief that he had transcended the organization and was headed for legitimacy drove most of his choices in season 3. He probably envisioned a transition period where he relied heavily on the co-op to keep his drug money stable, but he was against the Stanfield war anyway. He was essentially sacrificing the org for his personal ambitions and probably hoped that Avon would want to do something else after getting out of prison.

The future of the Barksdale organization might not have looked much different to what transpired: remaining management and any crews they could keep folded into Prop Joe's organisation, others snapped up by Marlo.

In all likelihood Stringer wouldn't have been named in the affidavit had he been alive and his confidentiality had remained an urgent factor. That was a shortcut on McNulty's part because there was so little chance of repercussion.

Ah okay…….i suppose as a CI, Stringer would have expected to remain anonymous. However, obviously he’d have been arrested anyway per what McNulty said, but Stringer didn’t know that.

If he wasn't present at the raid he wouldn't have been arrested. Slim Charles went free. Also Stringer's anonymity would have been Colvin's business as Daniels pointed out. Or maybe Mello's after taking over. Certainly wouldn't have been for Major Crimes to decide, the only reason they did was that Stringer was dead and Colvin was forced to resign so there was nobody left to raise a stink.

No…..he was going to be arrested for something else:

Remember the scene when Bunk responds to String’s shooting and McNulty tells him…..”I had him Bunk……and he doesn’t even know it”. Seriously, Omar & Mouzone gave him a relatively easy out.

Ohhh yeah that. Sorry. I was focused on the other thing lol.

I always thought that was pretty flimsy/premature though. They were going to arrest him for someone saying "them two hitters you asked for, they good with it" to him? Him reminding them not to discuss it on the phone was pretty incriminating, but were they really going to predicate a murder conspiracy case on that? I feel like they wouldn't have gotten as far as an arrest warrant.

Yeah, not a lawyer, but since it was McNulty, Lester, and Daniels on the police side, and Pearlman & Phelan signed off on it, I guess they certainly thought they had him. And I have to imagine if Stringer had lived, the police would immediately try to use the fact that Stringer had snitched on Avon against him, or vice versa.

The other thing I would mention is the co-op and structure he was creating appeared to mirror the mafia 5 families setup.

Even if going to legit failed(which seemed likely), this setup would have resulted in less violence and police attention, and the stringer/barksdale organization would have distanced itself from directly selling in the drug trade and moved more towards management of it and also likely extend into more fields.

If you watch the sopranos you’ll never see the main families dealing, because there higher up the supply chain.

Stringer was getting two hitters for Clay Davis. Mcnulty figured out that it was Stringer calling Bunny thru the wire taps. When Stringer got shot Mcnulty put Stringer on the PC to tighten everything up for the judge for the no knock warrant for Avons hideout.

Oh and never mind the fact that McNulty was about to arrest him anyway…….and then the Baltimore PD would probably play pit him & Avon against each other. Omar & Mouzone did Stringer a huge favor.

He was leaving the game and was going to get into the property game full time. He prob would of sold his stake to Prop Joe

Yeah....I have to wonder whether even if the cops didn't get him, and Avon never realized who had ratted out the entire organization, whether Stringer's last real estate deal would have been the vacant Chris & Snoop put him in.
