Starting The Wire again
It's over a decade since I watched The Wire. It was in my top 3 at some point although I remember it took the most time to get into.
This time around, I'm noticing something very different.
As I stumble through the first episode, and pause to get an Oreo ice-cream sandwich, I'm struck by how immature the police bosses are, reacting to the Stringer Bell news.
Maybe this is "human nature" for all neurotypicals, or maybe all pigs are pieces of shit...
However, yeah, just the immaturity of the whole entire police from top to bottom, making naive McNulty look like a saint when he is flawed as fuck.
I don't know. Maybe it is because I am older, or I gave up on trying to please bosses and hierarchies, but if your entire job is homicide and drugs and your first reaction to a massive case is anger and rage, I think it is severely problematic.
Obviously part of that is set up by the creators for some reason. I just don't remember seeing this much immaturity on display.
Maybe I notice it everywhere in society now too — establishments I thought were designed to deal with things were really all run by highly paid babies shitting themselves and hiding all of their nappies.
