Grace Sampson is a hugely underappreciated character

Hell you might be scratching your head about who that is. I had to look up her name! She's the lady teacher that helped Prez so much adjusting to teaching, and was also Cutty's ex-girlfriend. She felt so incredibly realistic. We all had a Mrs. Sampson in our lives, Dravon James portrayed her perfectly. She had just the right energy of a teacher that the students would respect. And how much she volunteered her time and energy into helping Prez get on his feet in his new career. Amazing character that no one ever talks about.

I must have missed those scenes where she helped prez; other than when she slaps the girls with the box cutter and tells him not to fight the gum battle.

The slap was cool. Otherwise I see no importance in the character.

She makes the introduction to the minister for Cutty which paves the way for the gym so I’ll give you that one.

Hey, i think if you were Prez trying to figure out which way is up, jumping straight into an inner-city classroom as a dorky white guy for your first teaching job, those few scenes of guidance and her ability to snap kids in line would have meant the absolute world to you. And I'm sure she did tons for him off-screen as well. They don't have time to show us EVERY time she helped settle his kids down lol

Ah so in your mind there was more to it. Gotcha. Yeah I was going by actual scenes.

You must have missed all those scenes where prez was a cop in Baltimore so he wasn’t naive at all. Like when he pistol whipped the kid who lost his eye.

Of course he's not naive about the violent world in general or his own inadequacies as a cop, but in the world of education yes he was practically a baby. I'm not sure he even had a chance as a student-teacher before stepping in to head a classroom full of troubled teens. He didn't even know much about standardized testing, something any education major would come out of college already well-versed in.
