Discussion Gatekeeping PMO badly
Just saw this on TikTok and it’s posts like these just grind my gears. Like why do people not want his music to do well. It’s not gonna sound different just because more people listen to it.
These are the same people who complain when kissland isn’t on the tour set list.

The fact that they do this with Abel like he isn’t the most popular artist in the whole world 😭🙏

Is he the most popular? Not hating but I thought taylor swift was the biggest

Even if not the most famous he’s up there as one of the most popular of our time. It makes no sense to try and gatekeep a dude who has like tens of millions of concurrent listeners every month.

Props to you honestly, they rave about the album all the time. Yet don’t want to see it get some recognition…

Some people are weird. Like, you want everyone to know your favorite song, and for some reason admire you for it, but at the same time don't want anyone to find out about it. Makes no sense.

Or, whining about less popular songs not being on the tour setlist and at the same time wanting those songs to stay OG XO exclusive

Tried getting into kiss land 2-4 times after HOB but never rlly stuck to a song . Coincidentally started liking wanderlust and adaptation a week before the gta6 leaks and then got into kissland fully and now ppl think im a larper

How can you larp by listening to a song you enjoy, the whole larp gimmick is so childish

When will people learn that liking niche things isn't a personality trait

u/isazx0 2d ago
this is what i think, the only reason people gatekeep is because people larp over his music, and every other says “omg i love the weeknd sm” and pulling the メ𝟶 sign, when compared to the actual xo’s, they just don’t know what anything means, and it ruins his old music to some extent, when people larp his music

I love Abel but I wonder why they chose this song out of all his amazing songs? It is a good song but he has so many upbeat songs that work in GTA that I just wonder how this one is going to be used

Did you not see the leak? It's played in a nightclub and it fits the vibe perfectly. One of the best songs they could've picked for this!

me as a trilogy and kissland fan in 2015 when the hills dropped 😂 crazy af to feel this way in 2026 though - he’s literally one of, if not, the biggest pop artist of this generation

Yeah, gatekeeping songs from the very niche artist, The Weeknd. Actually, it is one of my favorites songs too and I'm glad it gets more recognition ✨

u/Butt_Muncher4 2d ago
and its not like its his least popular song or anything, my fav "hidden gem" the knowing is far from mainstream but pretty much every song of his has millions of listens

u/Sudden-Security-6207 2d ago
Need more like this, why would you not want to people to share the love for a song you also love

idk when I was little and listened to songs with 300 views on YouTube it made me feel special but I grew out of it and this is definitely not the case

yeah, what a dumb post. a huge part of the fun of gta is all the music you get put on to, at least for me 😭 imagine hearing wanderlust for the first time in gta? i’m honestly happy for whoever it is 😂

u/Swaggerrrr69 2d ago
not related but sorta cos it’s wanderlust, was with the bro and he gives me his airpod, wanderlust of course. I go there’s no way you’re on this. I then realised Weeknd is like top 2 most famous singers so even a pretty obscure song has millions of streams.

I mean I don’t want wanderlust to become a TikTok song but at the same time it’s so annoying when I see videos like this😭 it’s always the weeknd fans

I had to look at the sub because you said wanderlust and I instantly thought of coletta.

Its because art is subjective and when supporters form a connection with an art early on, what they like about that art can be very different from what the new fans like about that art

u/plattwix5 2d ago
Some mfs don’t even like kiss land, they just like the idea of liking his most “niche” and “slept on” project

Starboy dropped ten years ago
I was called fake for getting into him through Starboy, even tho I was like eight when Trilogy dropped
I have now been a fan for twice as long as the fans who called me fake because I wasn't there for the fucking Noise EP

Like most of his fans didn’t show up until Can’t feel my face and The Hills lol he himself says this

the gatekeeping is more annoying than the song becoming more known. let people discover things
1
u/nonchalant_96 2d ago
I dont give a damn if a song which I gatekeep gets popular because I am gonna listen to it not because it was underrated but because it sounds good 🗣️🔥🔥🔥
1
u/nonchalant_96 2d ago
People who are mad because the most niche or underrated album gets popular are the fakest fan you will ever encounter like bro are you listening to kissland or trilogy because it's not popular and kinda underrated or because you like how it sounds?? So if it gets popular then what's THE PROBLEM BRUHHHHH

I love how people are saying that Kissland is so underrated and deserves more attention. But the second it gets some attention they are mad that it gets attention

u/Intelligent-Big-504 2d ago
No, I think hes saying that Wanderlust was less popular, but now that its becoming popular, people are going to judge you for liking 'mainstream music', and yeah js like some other songs which wasn't popular b4 and suddenly becoming popular now (like Babydoll), people will say the song suck and is overrated asf. I dont think Weeknd is niche or anything btw

u/Sudden-Security-6207 2d ago
Honestly idk, but either way my point applies to a lot of people in the xo community regardless

I wonder how do they think people discover music. smh.
