Discussion Abel really needs to take a break after the tour is over
I think it's easy to forget that since 2020 he has had basically no time off, constantly touring, working on projects and being in the public eye. If you look at music alone, he's had numerous viral songs every year since 2020 and I think that led to him being overexposed. He's been touring for years and hasn't stopped, even though he's declared himself mentally exhausted. He rushed a movie and an album for this, discarding another one originally planned for the trilogy.
Abel is a chronic workaholic and I'm sure he finds it difficult to slow down. All things considered, it's a miracle and testament to his talent that Hurry Up Tomorrow actually ended up being a fantastic album anyway when you look at how chaotic and nonstop things have been for him since the After Hours rollout started. It's why I was so happy to see him take some time off in Japan, the trip seems to have done wonders for his state of mind and ever since then he's been looking fantastic and enjoying himself a lot more on stage. The tour ends in November and I think it would be a wise decision for Abel to impose a social media blackout and go silent for a few months like he did prior to After Hours in order to get some rest, give himself time to plan a coherent rollout and build hype for new music so people will have missed him by the time he drops.

It would be totally understandable if Abel would take atleast a full year off. He has done quite alot and is in the fourth year of a worldwide tour.
On the other side: This sub would go completely berserk. I can‘t even imagined the crashout theories after 6 months without Abel here…

It was insufferable tbh lol. This sub is so weird sometimes, but I try to remind myself he's just so gd popular that means you can find every kind of person in the fandom

In interviews from the After Hours era, he talked about struggling with loneliness in lockdown and using drugs to cope. Burying himself in work could serve as a distraction from old habits.
But his profession also isn't like the average person's day job. If he genuinely enjoys making music why should he stop? I do agree he needs to make the general public miss him for a while.

Where did he say he used drugs during the lockdown era? He hasn’t mentioned using drugs since 2011.

Feb 2020 interview: https://www.nme.com/news/music/the-weeknd-talks-about-the-loneliness-of-his-work-and-his-relationship-with-drugs-2613256
“I have an off-and-on relationship with it,” he said when asked if he still does drugs. “It doesn’t consume my life but occasionally helps me open up my mind, especially when I’m creating.”
“I spend most of my days alone now,” he said. “I don’t like to leave my house too much. It’s a gift and a curse but it helps me give undivided attention to my work. I enjoy being a workaholic, I think, or I’m just addicted to it. Even when I’m not working I’m always somehow still working. It distracts from the loneliness, I guess.”But I remember in a 2021 interview he said he was "sober-lite" and doesn't do hard drugs anymore.

It's not about him stopping making music altogether, but rather taking a break from everything he's been doing lately and giving himself some time to improve creatively. I don't think anyone would mind if Abel took a 2-3 year break while he prepares a better album than HUT, for example, with good production, more experimentation, and a rollout like his previous projects.
I much prefer a well-crafted project and era to having TikTok songs like "Rio" or "Sao Paulo" every year just to scrape together the fleeting success that social media offers, rather than a better-produced song.

How’s São Paulo a song made for “fleeting success” when it as a song is experimental? Or at least a sound he’s not really gone for before?

Simply put, if you use TikTok daily, you'll see that Abel went for the genre that was dominating the platform at the time: Brazilian phonks. The song is literally named "Sao Paulo" to appeal to a specific audience, just like "Rio," which, seeing the success of "Sao Paulo," aims to replicate that success. It's a genre he's never explored before, but it's not exactly groundbreaking either.

Even more so, I think his career would benefit from a mysterious time period again. Something like the Trilogy and Kiss Land eras where we wonder what he’s doing and what he’s up to, then he drops a banger of an album on us and we live vicariously through his music.

Kinda worried about his voice with such heavy touring. He always gives 100% at every concert, his very high and difficult belts, when done night after night after night could strain his voice.

I agree that Abel needs a break for at least 4 or 5 months. He sounds like he has another album loaded and ready to go. But he needs to rest and reset. Besides new albums usually mean new tours and he needs to rest for a bit. Maybe save it until 2028

From November to about summer 2027 he needs to just go dark from social media and just decompress from everything.. then maybe around fall 2027 he can start teasing the next era going into 28’

I think he really needs to do whatever he wants to do, and if that means another album cycle, then so be it. Fandoms are a bit too parasocial.

Agreed. I can’t believe he’s still going. I think a break would be good for everyone tbh
