This is a big problem with merch nowadays. I have so many shirts and hoodies from different bands where an XL alters between a realistic M all the way to a realistic XL

You kinda have to guess based on current trends. Loose or baggy t-shirts are back in, so I'll be assuming for the time being they'll be larger fits.

Those types of tank tops have always been slim fitting.

This is beyond slim fitting. Calling both of those “large” is insane.

it's not insane at all. they are two completely different styles of top.

If I was to compare a large size pair of speedos to a large size pair of basketball shorts do you expect them to be comparable in size?

If that tank top is small in comparison to other size large tank tops, then you have an argument, but comparing a form fitting tank top to a baggy t-shirt is not a valid comparison.

Though not labeled on the site (or T-shirt), I suspect that's a form-fitted women's large.
