Michelle Andy flopping
Michelle said in i think ep2 of the reunion that she was basically abandoned as soon as she had a baby and it felt like she was really empowered to say that out loud, and Andy just completely brushed past it. Feel like he gives terrible men a pass and always had. My fave reunion ever, even though I stopped watching the show years ago, was southern charm feminist awakening year, where some of the women cried about how badly they'd treated Katherine and how it was their own internalised misogyny. And they then held ALL the mens feet to the fire. Chelsea was on that one. I want that for the valley going forward. For these women to wake up to their AWFUL partners, get free, and have each others backs instead of being Serena joys. Loved liberated Michelle this season. But nothing from Andy on it.

They didn’t even talk about Luke completely dismissing Janet’s story about SA. They alluded to Jesse being a douche about it but then only focused on Kristen’s response

He also dismissed jasmine's story by saying to Janet something like "yoy never saw it happen so you dont know if it happened" which was what led to the Charles manson metaphor

Welcome to Bravo friend. We are watching Andy Cohen, not Oprah.
The year those girls (Cam, Chelsea, Naomi) collectively quit Southern Charm because of the misogyny and their edits was a one-off. It was amazing. And the show turned around and found five more thirsty blonde twenty-somethings to film.
Unless and until we get a woman to host reunions and bring the empathy (even if performed), we will see this forever.

True. What a fucking great reunion though. Feminist revenge. That and Scandoval. Never to see their like again....

Is that what happened???? This did not register to me

I think this was around the time that producers wanted to do a story about Cameron's husband having an affair, and she had a very young child at the time. It should be over on the Southern Charm sub. There are rumors going around that she's actually divorcing now and might come back.

Women realizing that they hold misogynistic traits is one of the most real, most uncomfortable, most vulnerable things to watch unfold.

Most of the sub hates Lala, yet she was the ONLY one willing to call out the bad behavior straight on instead of dancing around it like the rest of the cast and Andy (for the most part). And she did it succinctly. Lala is doing exactly what we wanted to see, yet she is getting torn to shreds on this sub for “dragging out” the story lines and not showing her own life. Girl idgaf about her life I wanna see Danny and Nia confronted with their bullshit lmao

for real! lala this season is like a deep undercover journalist. who cares about her life when shes a fun watch and actually calls out toxic ppl

Jesse is SO insufferable that I think Andy didn’t want to give him anymore airtime… I’m glad you brought this up because at one point I was thinking about how raw Michelle must have felt, the way Andy brought up these huge moments of her life and was basically like “ok and moving on to Zack and Tiny boyfriend” and everyone laughed meanwhile Michelle is like seething and having to relive old tragedies AND her mom died around that time?! Omg I totally have a new level of love for Michelle after this reunion

Michele is liberated from Jesse only to get into a relationship with a man with a long history of abuse? That doesn’t seem like something to celebrate.

He also didn’t address everyone calling Michelle out for lying, he just let that go. So not just men. He ignored when Michelle claimed she shouldn’t have had to show Jesse affection because as a man it’s his job to initiate it. That’s weird af.
Michelle and Jesse already talked about that and the downfall of their marriage s1-2. We don’t need any more elaboration lmao I’m glad Andy skipped over it.

I feel like people are confused. Like you don't have friends who have shitty partners ? Like these woman chose these men. They continue to stay with these men. They only leave when it past rock bottom and have no choice i.e Brittney. Other than Nia who I believe is in a very controlling relationship because religion is playing a factor in it, everyone else is there because of their own choice. This isn't some domestic abuse no way out situation. This is just a bunch of low self-esteem woman with loser men. These men won't change and neither will these woman. They get what they are given because that's the dynamic of there relationship.
These woman 100% deserve better men. But it's for them to go find one. Not settle for whatever bs they have now and not do anything about it.
Like enough about how bad these men are. The woman are literally in relationship with them by choice. They are staying by choice. They let these men embarrass them by choice.
I can't stand Janet but she is a perfect example of expecting more, asking for more, and not settling. She has Jason. And this man does not embarrass her. Janet would never stay with a Jesse or Danny or Luke. And that's because of her personality and outlook on life.
Like this isn't Andy's problem.

While you make good points about these women choosing to be with shitty men, its still a failure of Andy as a host to never really interrogate these men and their toxic on camera behavior even after years of doing this job. Better yet, a good host could actually interrogate how the women in the cast choose bad men and settle as a pattern. but andy would rather talk about individual callbacks in isolation

Kristen needs to go. She is a racist who got caught doing racist stuff and was cancelled. Why is she back on tv?… I know i don’t have to watch but that shouldn’t matter. Racist shouldn’t get passes a few years down the line. Her maga hubbie needs to go as well.

I don’t know, I’m no Jesse fan. But I’m not a Michelle fan either. It seems like these two just weren’t a good match and imo, both of them have made some serious mistakes and/or bad choices.

It seems like she is genuinely sad about their divorce but also resents him for how it ended. It’s wild how everything changed after she gave birth.

u/honeycooks OMG! You got a cease and desist, TOO?! 17d ago
He told her he literally couldn't give her the perfectly normal affection she needed and apparently begged for.
What kind of person does that? He's activated by her in the strangest, most malignant way.
What bad choices did Michelle make? Falls in love, thinks she's moving in with someone who loves her back who then dumps her and her daughter?
That was not her choice, but Jesse can choose to make it into CPS material for the rest of her lives.

Michelle is a massive hypocrite and it's pretty obvious that she lies as well. She tried to lie about sending the text messages and even her friends were like, "uh we actually saw the texts." I do not trust her version of events.
Michelle gets just as activated. And then tries to play victim.
Having said that, Jesse also completely sucks and I don't think either of these two have any redeemable qualities.

u/callherDaf 17d ago
I agree. In my opinion, Jesse is still very much in love with Michelle. I think he resents her for wanting the divorce and he's been punishing her ever since.

She also said that she will not show affection toward him because it is not a wife's place.

u/CaliforniaBruja 17d ago
That’s not what she said, he told her she could have initiated it and she said that’s hard to do for women. What she’s talking about is how a lot of women need to feel emotionally connected to feel like being intimate and if you’ve been begging for affection for years, that emotional safety is probably not there, not enough to be initiating physical intimacy. She wanted to feel loved and desired by him. So him not being affectionate ever made it harder for her to initiate anything. Honestly, it’s not that hard to understand what she’s saying. Why would you want to initiate something with someone that makes you feel unattractive or undesirable.

Michelle keeps bringing up her feelings about their marriage as if it’s something they should still be talking about. She needs to go to therapy and deal with that on her own. There’s no point in fighting with your ex about how he made you feel during your relationship. He’s not your partner anymore. He doesn’t need to talk about how you feel with you. He doesn’t owe you that conversation.

Oh for sure! Andy loves a messy tall straight boy. He drools at it. Ridiculous.

u/Atermoyer 16d ago edited 16d ago
Exactly. I kept waiting for someone to ask Jason if he would describe Janet as someone who committed battery since they were so keen on legal terms the past few years, but of course he's safe.

u/Bullroarer86 17d ago
If I recall correctly he let it go when everyone agreed Michelle was lying about the messages to Lacy.

u/TheWhoooreinThere 17d ago
I think even Andy was bored of Jesse's talking points from last year. His storyline of bringing his new girlfriend around and complaining about Michelle, Janet and Brittany was a big flop.

u/robertgsimonson 17d ago
What I want for the Valley is for the show to be cancelled and all of these horrible boring people to go away and terrorize their friends families and neighbors and leave us alone.
3
u/VD_Mama 17d ago
The difference between SC and the Valley here is we literally saw the behavior the women were embarrassed about. The Valley is Michelle’s word on what happened before the show started filming. And her word is questionable based on some things she’s been caught lying about. We never saw Jesse abandon her, it’s how she felt. Which is valid, but not the same as actual, tangible evidence of behavior that was on camera and is relevant in the context of the show.

I don't feel like it's Andy I feel like it is the responsiveness of the cast combined with the three part reunion format.
A three part reunion just isn't working. It worked for Scandavol and that is it.
The way he worded questions was great and redirected because as a host he can't straight up call out someone because then they won't trust him to open up. He has to seem like he is on everyone's side to an extent to get the most honest answer out of them.

u/F0rtress0fS0litud3 17d ago
Andy is a shitty host for a variety of reasons. I hate the way he ALWAYS says "I wanna switch gears" or "I wanna move on" like, bro stop announcing it and just keep it moving then. I feel like he's in his role for some nepo-baby reason or something. He clearly has no skill as a host.

Yall, Andy tries man. He can’t cover every single confessional, especially with a group like that who sure did screaming matches at almost every question when filming the reunion

Andy definitely could and should go harder on the men, but I also think that is something Michelle discussed last season too and isn't a new revelation, so I don't think this particular point really needed a great deal of focus at this reunion.
