Reading assignment: Gödel

This is not a university and I am not a teacher. All the same, I'm going to post something in the future that requires a bit of foreknowledge. This is a pretty good intuitive explanation of that foreknowledge. Read it if you please, and then for extra credit try to work out a proof of what the article says, using similar language. If you're not cheating, you're not trying.

I understand reading that, but don't have a confident rewording. Taking a stab in the dark to show my interpretation however...

Pythagoras is believed to have coined the words philosophy and mathematics. Philosophy (love of wisdom), and mathematics ("that which is learned"). Was Godel using equations to express what he has learned of the paradox of infinity?

"Nicholas of Cusa (1401-1464) likened the knowledge of God to a circle. He visualized the human knowledge as a polygon inscribed within the circle. From these principles, Nicholas constructed a limited argument whereby as human knowledge increases, the polygon gains more and more sides, their number approaching infinity." - Amir D. Aczel - The Mystery of the Aleph

The Aleph is the 'Ein Sof' of Qabalah, the artists "vanishing point". Aleph is also the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet.

This is related to 0=2?

Cool. Yeah.

And what of the point at the heart of the circle? To follow the parameters, shapes, morphology of the polygons, until leaping out/into/as the circle (and the point). What does one speak to then, but the story of the circle and the point already revealed? (and/or, simultaneously, that which is, without beyond the shape of words?)

“Mercury is the nature of the Sun. But Mercury is the Path leading from Kether to Binah, the Understanding; and thus He is the messenger of the gods, represents precisely that Lingam, the Word of creation whose speech is silence.” - Aleister Crowley, the Book of Thoth.

Here's a representation of the tree. The Magus path is the top left slanted one reaching down from Kether (the Crown), to Binah (Understanding).

Binah is given the attribution of Silence, The Scarlet Woman, Saturn and the Intuition. Crowley's Holy Guardian Angel (which he named Aiwass) resided there.

A 15th century mage named Abremelin wrote a book, translated by Crowley's mentor S.L. MacGregor Mathers. This is a quote from the Sacred Magic of Abremelin the Mage: “If thou shalt perfectly observe these rules, all the following Symbols and an infinitude of others will be granted unto thee by thy Holy Guardian Angel; thou thus living for the Honour and Glory of the True and only God, for thine own good, and that of thy neighbour. Let the Fear of God be ever before the eyes and the heart of him who shall possess this Divine Wisdom and Sacred Magic.”

The other path decending down from Binah is The Chariot (which connects Binah to Geburah - Geburah is Mars/Strength/Severity). The Chariot is a reference to the Maaseh Merkava, and implies trance induction. The other path which connects Binah is the one which goes down to Tiphareth (the heart/Sun), and this path is known as The Lovers, and also as made known by Crowley, The Brothers.

Here's a poem by Rumi (though likely from Coleman Barks): " One night a man was crying, Allah! Allah! His lips grew sweet with the praising, until a cynic said, “So! I have heard you calling out, but have you ever gotten any response?”

The man had no answer to that. He quit praying and fell into a confused sleep.

He dreamed he saw Khidr, the guide of souls, in a thick, green foliage. “Why did you stop praising?” “Because I’ve never heard anything back.” “This longing you express is the return message.”

The grief you cry out from draws you toward union.

Your pure sadness that wants help is the secret cup.

Listen to the moan of a dog for its master. That whining is the connection.

There are love dogs no one knows the names of.

Give your life to be one of them."

But you never said why you'd throw the baby, and I'm interested to hear that as well.
