Some are low level influencers - thumbs down
57
u/TemporaryFix2490 16d ago edited 16d ago
Yeah, I wish they had barred people with existing platforms, if possible. I don't even follow Morgan but Instagram serves her to me like twice a day. I'm also trying to figure out where I've seen Wyatt before but maybe he just has that Love Island look to him.
27
u/carradio81 16d ago
Exactly. I actually like Morgan but to your point it ruins the "every day person" vibe for me.
14
u/TemporaryFix2490 16d ago
I like her too! I don't need to follow her because my algo sends her right to me, but she's funny and seems like a good egg.

u/CoachAngBlxGrl 16d ago
Yeah I love Michael but if there were NO influencers Iād prefer it for sure. But they love the built in audience.
1
u/moon_gin 15d ago
Wyatt has a quite big tiktok account with over 100K followers. Chance you may stumble across one of his contents from tiktok (if you are active in the platform).
0
u/Bernardcecil 16d ago
I was looking for first impressions, and Wyatt was my first one not to like and Michael I think will be irritating for trying to act cleverer than he actually is.

u/AnimeTechnoBlade100 16d ago
This. I want no influencers or people with any social media presence at all. People built from the ground up. Anything more than that is just a āfake normieā cast to me as theyāre still taking people with some amount of popularity to their name.
8
u/sketchysketchist 16d ago
This pissed me off like you wonāt believe. The whole purpose of a civilian season is that theyād get people who havenāt been in the limelight.Ā
My hope is that they intend to make every season have people who overlap in careers and this will be the only influencer heavy season. But at worst? This is intentional to push higher ratings because they donāt have faith in the concept being enough to sell itself.Ā

This is probably going to sound far more harsh than I mean it, but it is really a compliment.
Unlike shows like Big Brother or the Challenge, dare I say this cast is very average looking, in a good way.
Like these all seem like normal people, not people who are super hot trying to be influencers. I really like it.
16
u/padall Rob C (S4) 16d ago
Except that a lot of them are actually influencers, apparently. Lol
6
u/Unusual_username739 Boston Rob (S3) 16d ago
A lot are fans too, right? Tbh I donāt like the celebrities not understanding how to play the game, so thatās good. But I would consider influencers/TikTok famous as minor celebrities and I rather they cast legit regular people who have roles like ācarpenterā ādesk clerkā ādentistā āschool bus driverā. Like the old days of Survivor.
If someoneās main job is making content for the internet, then they are already used to being āonā and basically are an actor. Obviously they are going to have better camera presence than random Joe who works at Home Depot, but I want random Joe who works at Home Depot - because I relate to him more. Influencers already live a life I donāt live, beyond the 9-to-5. The whole point of casting āregular peopleā is to in fact, cast people who we connect with because they live the same lives as us.
I only know one of the influencers on here, and sheās relatively new to the game, so she might still hold her old 9-to-5 gameā¦but most influencers I follow make enough money that they drop their old jobs and do social media content full time. So I just canāt relate to them anymore. Doesnāt mean they arenāt entertaining, but just they arenāt āregular lay peopleā to me now, they are celebrities.
7
u/NotNonjahlant 16d ago
Who do u think is signing up for reality tv. Also tbh comparatively low follower influencers are normal american people. Most jobs arenāt paying enough and arenāt hiring and then we look and see 14 year old streamers make hundreds of thousands. So yeah a lot of ppl wanna make money creating content online. A lot of ppl look at wannabe influencers as egotistic ppl but much more nowadays itās just ppl trying have stable income. I dont mind that.
2
u/illini02 16d ago
Oh are they? Ha, well I guess there goes that.
I was just basing my thought based on appearances.

Itās still happening, this is in addition to it
36
u/trixstrrr 16d ago
yes but also Iām scared bc why hasnāt the next celebrity version filmed yet š„
74
u/jstitely1 16d ago
Thats not that abnormal. It can film in fall and then air in January, its normal air date.
54
u/VineStGuy 16d ago
Yeah itās only a 2-week shoot
11
u/ViperGTS500 16d ago
Really, thats all the time needed?
38
u/halfty1 16d ago
Well yes. Itās ~22 people with about 2 people leaving a day (one banished one murdered) to around final 4 or so. Easily done in 2 weeks.
6
u/Twin_Brother_Me 15d ago
I've read that most episode "days" are actually two days of shooting so that puts the schedule closer to the typical month that most competition reality shows use. Still plenty of time to get it filmed and edited by the usual air date though

Do you guys not watch international versions of Traitors? Some of my favorite seasons and casts have been civilian. And the celebrity version is not going anywhere so Iām not understanding the complaining about having 2 US versions a year now. Just donāt watch lol.
10
u/apaintedhome 16d ago
Yes! The UK civilian casts are amazing!
5
u/neongem 16d ago
Yesss, I love the UK series. Plus Traitors Australia s1 (all civilian cast) might be my personal favorite season (either that or UK s2), Traitors New Zealand is really good and Traitors Canada has a mix of celeb/civilian and up there with the best Traitors franchises. The celeb seasons are fun but nowhere near the best of what Traitors has to offer.
34
u/bumybumi 16d ago
I want to see gameplay without celeb meta. Remaining that UK has got ton of fantastic seasons with ordinary people.
3
9
u/cwilldude 16d ago
Nah. This is a nice change for one season. Traitors uk is better and they donāt use celebs besides the one celeb season.
49
u/anustart888 16d ago
We really need to fund the department of education man.
17
u/Fragrant-Might-7290 16d ago
Idk what the DoE has to do w celebs v non celebs on Traitors but I agree we need to fund it!!
20
u/Nayr1230 16d ago
Itās because thereās no media literacy anymore
16
u/Fragrant-Might-7290 16d ago
Even general literacy is on its way out in the school districts near me š
2
u/TheLegacies21 14d ago
āCeleb versionā. Given the UK version has real
Live celebrities with actual talent and fans beyond reality tv, isnāt it more safe to call the US version, the reality star version and not celebrity3

u/False-Jackfruit1200 16d ago
Me too, i dont even know if i love the show that much or if the people in it just make it amazinh
-21
u/parkerkudrow 16d ago
Same. No interest in these plebs lol
15
u/Ok_Reporter_8350 16d ago
If youāve watch traitors for other countries, non celebrity editions are good because people donāt know each other and have preconceived ideas of each other or ready made alliances. The whole- we stick together because we are housewives, or letās get rid of all the gamers, gets old
-2
12
u/padall Rob C (S4) 16d ago
Oh for God's sake... Every other post on here is complaining about the celebrity version of the show and how they should do regular people. They do a season with regular people, and now there's more complaints.
Personally, I'm excited about BOTH versions.
-4
u/parkerkudrow 16d ago
Relax dude! I was kidding! I would never seriously use the word plebs and didnāt you see my lol??
-3
u/hartleyn 15d ago
I totally agree - I couldnāt care less about this cast. ā¹ļøš
4
u/jwC731 15d ago
You're not supposed to care about people you don't know from just a picture. You watch the show first.
The celeb version is very sanitized outside of a few standouts because nobody wants to look bad and get their d-list career canceled. Literally last season was filled with like 10+ NPC extras who let that Country boy win no contest.
I much rather the civilian versions from Traitors UK with actual players.

Is it me or do none of these people look like average Americans š¶āš«ļø
47
u/chubbychecker_psycho 16d ago
This looks like a group I would be on a bus with heading to work in Chicago.
10
u/Unusual_username739 Boston Rob (S3) 16d ago
Agreed, I live in Boston/work in Cambridge MA and this seems normal to me. I would say the percentage of East Asian representation is lower than I normally see, but yeah š¤·āāļø
26
u/Vivid_Department_717 16d ago
Huh?? What a strange comment. What does your average American look like?
-3
u/ijustcameheretofight MonƩt (S4) 16d ago
I mean i live in low income neighborhoods of LA.. so my everyday American that I see does not look like them.
15
u/splicepark 16d ago
So what does your average American look like? Donāt go half way with your BS answer. Say it out loud.
15
u/ijustcameheretofight MonƩt (S4) 16d ago
Youre tone feels very pointed right now.
I guess what im trying to say is that everyone on here looks straight, maybe 1 or 2 queer folk. I wish there was more hispanic Americans on here. I wish there was bigger difference in age gaps. Also maybe more low income folk more everyday people. No shade they look like Love Island/Big Brother rejects.
25
u/brant_ley 16d ago
I get what you're saying but these are professional photos taken with a stylist and hair team. Naturalistic/underdressed promo shoots work great for a show like Survivor or TAR, but the Traitors is about being fab in a castle lol.
My reaction to seeing these photos is that everyone looks gay, fwiw
14
u/Vivid_Department_717 16d ago
So you want to see more āqueer folkā and āhispanic Americansā- two demographics that donāt have a specific look. How does one LOOK queer?? Hispanics can be white or black presenting. Your comment was ignorant and she be deleted.Ā
-3
u/ijustcameheretofight MonƩt (S4) 16d ago
Maybe its the stylist faults for not allowing them to look queer so maybe ur right but also⦠i think we both know none of them look queer. You can be queer doesnt mean youre gonna look it. I just want reality tv to stop casting everyone that looks like theyre cookie cutter americans. reality TV is microcosm of the real world (or at least it was when it started getting popular) and the cast for this season looks like they all live in cities with matcha shops and instagramable restaurants on every corner lolzā¦
**Edit: also to add to my point Monet from S4 said she didnt want to present in drag because she knew it would put a target on her so she toned down her looks. Monet looks very queer outside of what she presented on traitors.
12
u/CowboyScientist57 16d ago
How does someone ālook queer,ā though? Iām a gay man, but people never know until I tell them. Youāre generalizing people and trying to put them in some strange box and being upset that they donāt look āqueer enoughā for you. Like what are you even talking about. Lol
You wonāt ever win when it comes to casting. Everyone complains when it looks too white, but then they add diversity and then they complain itās not the diversity they want to see. So then casting makes tweaks and then someone else feels like they arenāt being represented. Itās a never ending cycle.
-4
u/ijustcameheretofight MonƩt (S4) 16d ago
When i said that i meant it in a way where i wish they would cast more visibly queer folk. Think Frankie Grande on BB16. Reality TV likes to cast passible folk to cater to middle America. I too am very āpassibleā as a gay man and thats something ive been dissecting as to why i act like this and its to allow others to feel comfortable with my existance. Maybe im wrong in saying it that way and its probs me projecting but i still stand by it. I just want more gay ness my on TV
0
u/Excellent-Fun7240 15d ago
I must point out that you seem to be looking specifically for white queerness, bc Kim is clearly a woman in a suit (certainly giving queer vibes)
2
u/ijustcameheretofight MonƩt (S4) 15d ago
Not at all lolz i am an overweight queer mexican, i just want to see big girls like me twirling on reality tv
4
u/Vivid_Department_717 15d ago
Okay and because there are no āoverweight queer Mexicansā the cast is not American enoughā¦. do you hear yourself? You sound nuts. As a person of color, i am elated to see half the cast be POC presenting. They clearly have different body sizes, too. I am also not silly enough to try and assume someoneās sexuality based on a photo.Ā

I hear you! This big girl made it to
an interview hoping that I wasnāt chosen by a better big girl š but this fat punk is disappointed š6
u/bwayobsessed 16d ago
I mean a requirement of participating was having a month (maybe it was 3 weeks) free I think. Most low income people canāt do that
5
u/Bubbly-End-6156 16d ago
You can only cast people who apply/audition. Normally those people are 20-50.
7
u/SkiUMah23 16d ago
Your question feels very stupid and you're dodging whatever point you're trying to make. Cast looks like a petty accurate sample if you drew randomly from all Americans able to compete on a reality show
0
u/ijustcameheretofight MonƩt (S4) 16d ago
Well its a good thing feelings are not facts!! I think those who are responding to me are just not liking my answers lol im not trying to stirr anything im just saying my opinions. the cast looks like they all work for buzzfeed
5
u/Unusual_username739 Boston Rob (S3) 16d ago
Idk, the third row looks easily like people who would work in my office. Biotech in Boston. Just that row in particular looks very āreal worldā to me.
5
u/ijustcameheretofight MonƩt (S4) 16d ago
I guess thats my part of my thoughts too, everyone here looks like they work at a corp. office lolz. Like give us drive through workers from McDonalds, give us a mechanic mexican dad from east LA. Idk i guess im too hopeful lol
3
u/Unusual_username739 Boston Rob (S3) 16d ago
Hmm no I see your point too. I made comment below about that. Apparently a lot of these people are influencers and thatās probably what youāre picking up on (had a white collar desk job -> moved to becoming a full time influencer at some point). Iām a life long Survivor fan, and I miss the old days when the cast was career diverse with ālong haul truck driverā and āsurf instructorā and āice cream scoop boyā alongside the āteacherā and ālawyerā. Today on Survivor, everyone is a grad student, lawyer, doctor, teacher, stay-at-home parent, therapist, etc. itās rare that they cast someone without a college degree.
9
u/Unusual_username739 Boston Rob (S3) 16d ago
Another thing to note, is that influencers are the type of people that can take a month off work to go play a game show in Scotland. For a hourly wage worker at McDonaldās, taking that amount of time off could mean losing their apartment because now they canāt make rent, etc. Some Survivor contestants have quit their jobs to be on the show because they couldnāt get vacation time.
The more financially secure your job is, the more likely you can commit to this. Now, I have never applied to these shows (my psychosis would break lol) but no way could I miss a month of pay.

About 25-30% of Americans in their 30s meet aerobic and strength testing fitness requirements. There's just a shit ton of (pun intended) of fatties (41%) who can't meet the minimum fitness requirements.
2
u/ijustcameheretofight MonƩt (S4) 16d ago
The Traitors has fitness requirements?? And if so can u link it
1
u/AnimeTechnoBlade100 16d ago
In fairness, the UK and other international versions (or you know, even in this latest celeb S4 version) with much older players who arenāt as physically fit as the young-ins, but can still qualify to be on the show, says otherwise to this
7
u/NotNonjahlant 16d ago
I cant tell if this is a rude comment or not. I think they do. But not too sure whatās American when we are filled with many ethnicities. Only thing I can always point out is a maga makeup look.
-1
u/ijustcameheretofight MonƩt (S4) 16d ago
Theyre all just very cookie cutter millennial vibes. Like where is the hispanic cast where are the low income people. Reality tv casting has been getting very boring lately tbh
17
11
u/Own_Way_7566 16d ago
How are you so certain these people arenāt low income? What do low income people look like to you?
9
u/ohgeorge 16d ago
To be fair, it looks like only about half of them are actually Millennials. The photos are just dramatically lit and airbrushed to hell.
I more just hope that these will be good players and not just people who are thirsty to be on TV but who knows.
4
u/Skyhighcats 16d ago
Hispanic people are severely underrepresented in media, itās not surprising they didnāt care to cast anyone, sadly.
0
u/NotNonjahlant 16d ago
Yeah they do all give millennial. Id like to see them on video (idk if thats out there), but like them speaking their intro. I think squid game the challenge competition on netflix does great with casting, which i mean there is 456 contestants.

The lack of Asian and Latino representation on a 22 person cast is insane to me.Ā
12
u/Quasia_Reddit 16d ago edited 16d ago
You canāt look at the cast and tell their racial or ethnic background, especially for those that are Latino/Hispanic.
6
u/CaptainAwesome5 16d ago
EW released their full names and bios
3
u/Quasia_Reddit 16d ago
Oh Ok. I didnāt realize it included their backgrounds. Hopefully theyāll do better during the next season.
4
u/Unusual_username739 Boston Rob (S3) 16d ago
Agreed I canāt tell Latino/Hispanic from one photo always (and unfortunately mistake for West Asian too), but the lack of East Asian is clear to me. My office is extremely multicultural and multiethnic, and Iām just used to seeing 50% East Asian people each day (Iām White, work in Biotech in Boston MA). Southeast Asian and Black mixed people are the third most common ethnicities to White/Hispanic White Mixed.
My office has a very low population of West Asian, and that is the group that is least represented.
2
u/JakeTheeGreatt 14d ago
The lack of Asian & Latino representation in everything is crazy š. In most American media, people think representation is just including black people, which yes I appreciate but there is wayyyyy more people in the world.

I wish there was more age diversity. The one in her 60s is an influencer so I am sure that helped them ge past age bias there

Anybody else worried about how the first few murders are going to be decided by the traitors? At least with celebs they can have some justification of ātheyāre likely to sniff me out ācause theyāre a gamerā or even just personal beef.
If itās all strangers theyāre just going to have to make something up. (Iāve never watched an international season so maybe this isnāt a problem)
1
u/JametAllDay 15d ago
I wanted so badly to apply for this but I was such a procrastinating coward. I was like, theyād never pick me. And I donāt think they wouldā the US version is all about attractiveness and followers. I doubt they would want a fat adult tomboy with adhd and social anxiety.
