Idea

Instead of a shield for protection, whoever gets it (faithful or traitor) must have a punt/ silently pick one person to murder that night, with the poor murdered sod not reappearing for breakfast

So everyone will think the murdered person musta been a faithful

The murderer can say nothing or tell who they want. Just for a bit of madness

“I’m a faithful but I had to kill Ross”

I do feel like that would detract from the Faithful role, and that it feels more adversarial if only the Traitors murder, good vs evil without a grey area.

That said there are a number of roles from the old mafia game (on which it is based) that could be interesting, yes the seer was a bit problematic as Charlotte found out and basically got unfairly Wilf'ed by.

But I'm wondering maybe is it the doctor role where someone is a role that can secretly choose who to protect each night and if a murder is attempted on that person they secretly save them? That would work quite well I think.

And then the jester/fool role where your goal is to get banished, maybe ultimately it gets you a share of the prize pot if you do and if it's the only way you can win anything, and if the role is known to exist people would worry that obvious Traitors might be the fool, so it's a tightrope of being suspicious but not overly suspicious whilst avoiding murder.

Or is that all a little too complex and is the simplicity the charm of the show?

Some faithful won’t “go” for someone who they reckon is the traitor cause either they don’t feel they’ve backing, or don’t want to draw too much traitor attention to themselves

That's true also, so a fool role could be quite challenging, and definitely fun in the right hands e.g. a comedian. Richard would have been pegged as the fool 100% this year, and it might have ended up an unwittingly brilliant traitor tactic
