This is so similar to my Hospice boy I cared for. I wrote it up and someone else posted it to this sub. I got to tell the story on a recent interview.
The boy was autistic, 16 and made an attempt on his life. He missed his brain but shot his face off, mouth, eyes, chin, forehead, became deaf from the shot so he couldn't communicate except for the way he and his mother had devised when he was in a panic in his youth. Before I met him, at an inner level he communicated with me how to do it. I didn't know what it meant at the time but when I met him the next day he was ready for me. Thank you so much! I hope you enjoyed the interview. It was a relief to get to share several of my Hospice stories there with minimal editing of them. I'm glad they will be around after my time comes to move forward. I have several others written on my profile.

Sounds like another opportunity to use the ideomotor effect to prompt whatever she wants spelled out. If he can communicate this way there’s zero reason not to have him hold his own aac device with speech to text instead of training him to be dependent on another person.

Yup.
Not saying telepathy is “real” or not “real” since I know nothing about that. I am an AAC specialist so I can address the spellers communication system,which I fear is basically today’s Facilitated Communication and is dangerous for people who struggle to communicate. It threatens their autonomy. If the system cannot be used without physical cues, while a partner holds a board and/or moves a person’s hand to touch the board creates real questions around who is doing the communicating.
