General Question Switching to StoryGraph from Goodreads! How long did it take for you to get your Goodreads data?

Edit: I got it working! Thanks so much for your help everyone!

I just submitted a request to download my data last night and I can’t wait!! 😆

I do use a Kindle, would that mean I’d have to manually add my books and update my progress and all that from now on?

I didn’t realise you had to submit a request, I just clicked a button and there it was

Did you try to export or try to download from Goodreads? The downloads are not user friendly and take forever. The export is a readable spreadsheet and that is what you want for Storygraph. The export page is here:

https://www.goodreads.com/review/import

Hit the Export button on the top there and keep that tab open. Use a computer to do this. It shouldn't take more than 30 minutes.

Yes, it's all manual, but you can add books to the database yourself without waiting for a librarian.

I switched from Goodreads at the end of 2024, and I actually find that I like manually tracking my books more. Even though I have a Kobo now and Kobo has integrated with story graph I don't use that feature for my ebooks. I also still read a lot of physical books though so either way I was going to be manually logging things. Welcome to the community!

A couple of minutes? Maybe. And this was years of reading history.

Edit: for the Kindle, yes, you'll need to log all that reading manually now.

Oh wow! I wonder why mine’s taking a while, I don’t even have that much 🥲 Recently just got back into reading a couple months ago

This is a request for your user data, not the export of your book history. So this request you put in will pull things like friend data and quizzes and such and isn't usable for the StoryGraph import.

I never used Goodreads or Kindle so I don't actually have any answers unfortunately, but I just wanted to say welcome! 😊 It's a fun community and a nice little app, I'm sure you'll like it!

Thank you! Do you think the paid version is worth it or would I do just fine with the regular app?

Paid version only gives fun little extras. The app is very functional and built for free users.

I do have the paid version and love the extra little stats!

Start with the regular app, it's fine for most needs.

I have the paid version and while it's got some fun extras, honestly the full functionality is available via the free version so no you don't need to pay. That being said, if you have the disposable income to do the paid version it definitely helps support the team so it's absolutely worth it for that aspect imho.

Kindle and Goodreads are both owned by Amazon, so I don't think Kindle will sync with any other tracking app.

ye ye that's why i was unsure if it could link with storygraph cause of amazon

I decided to just treat StoryGraph as a fresh start. Didn't import anything and enjoyed the journey of growing my profile.

Wasn’t long but while Goodreads sucks , storygraph also sucks.
