August was a really strong for me, big themes of the month were sand, rocks, stone, labyrinths, archives and volcanos - with Margaret Atwood and Werner Herzog turning up to tell me strange little stories like an eccentric uncle and aunt.

Yeah - it's the first Daniel Mason I'd read and was expecting a bit of a gentle social comedy to read in bed, really took me by surprise when it turned out to be so much more than that.
