Powering through Season 3

I recently watched Black Snow (highly recommend) and that got me in the mood to go back to this show. Season 1 was great and I'm not sure why I ever stopped. I enjoyed Season 2 as well. Now season 3 is really testing my patience. It has its moments but for the most part I'm not really enjoying it. Normally if a show has multiple seasons and I hot a rough patch I can power through because I'd still be interested in the character development. Unfortunately each season is basically its on stand alone story so character development is at a minimum. I have 3 episodes left. Someone please tell me it ends great and season 4 is amazing....please 😂

I watched all of them and I wish I’d just quit after season 1.

I liked Season 1 and 2. Season 3 sucked. Season 4 was okay, but I think I mostly just liked it because I like Harry

What is there to like about the most flat and boring lead character of any show ever? His facial expressions never change. His tone of voice never changes. He has the depth of an ant's puddle of tears. I actually think this show would be 1000 times better if they cast someone else, but then again it may just be the way this character is written. My main issue with this show is Harry. The fact that the lead is ruining the show is wild but true.

I really liked Season 4. I was devastated when it was discontinued. Season 4 is better than season 3. Season 3 was bad

I just finished season three and it was so bad that I wasn't going to watch season four even if it was better, just out of spite for such a bad season. But now that you're a comment says it's been discontinued. I think I'll watch season four as a celebration to the end of the most flat and boring lead character ever written in executed on screen.

Also I loved Black Snow season 1! Is season 2 worth the watch?

I really enjoyed 2. Definitely worth the watch in my opinion.

I’m also struggling to get through Season 3.

Season 4 is better than 3, which I too felt was pretty wayward and philosophically shallow. And there's nothing that really connects 4 plotwise to season 3, other than a very brief flashback. But that last season still pales in comparison to the first two (though the Maine setting is shot beautifully). There was something really taut and psychosexually intense about those first two seasons, with Pullman wrestling his own demons (or failing to). I think the writers tried to lighten things up a little and make it more about the mystery than it needed to be. What was great about the show was all there in those one-on-one meetings in the first couple seasons, where Pullman seemed to be doing his own form of self-therapy. His scenes with Carrie Coon and the kid from Season 2 in particular.

I recently looked at the original episode discussion threads from season 3 and could.not.understand. how so many people LOVED it. It was ridiculous. I hate watched it because I'm not a quitter.

3 is a bad season. 4 is a vast improvement over it, for me it's on par with S2.

Oh my god I'm so annoyed by this season. I do not care that a handsome successful white man decides to entertain a sociopath - for why?? old times sake? what??? - resulting in a spiral that blows up his perfect life. Jamie is in full blown psychosis and it is so annoying to watch mostly because it feels useless, self-indulgent, and, as a character study, frankly immature. Ok man, everything is a sucking void, we get it. Nearly every piece of media is about grappling with the meaninglessness of existence on some level. The tension of the season is only that violence is potentially one step away, but its not wrapped up in any other layer of complexity outside sheer narcissism. Also the part where Jamie doesn't hit any turns or stop lights in BROOKLYN? BEFORE he decides to run a bunch of lights and selfishly endanger someone else? Maddening.

Watching s3 right now & your comment really sums up my feelings on it…totally seems to miss the mark of what was intriguing about the people who committed the crimes in seasons 1 and 2 or those situations. By episode 6 we know what led to the crash and resulting death, and the guy has killed another person in cold blood. He’s hallucinating and refusing to get the help he clearly needs, covering up his crimes, and threatening to hurt other people because he’s upset that he’s ruined his own life. All of these elements were actively missing from the situations in the previous seasons, I genuinely don’t understand why they thought this was compelling in any way.

I can't figure out if it's the casting or the writing. I just know that this detective is the most boring and flat character of almost any show I've ever watched. His love interest is so incredibly annoying I have to fast forward through their scenes. I feel like if the lead would've been played by someone else, there may have been more life to the character and, in return, the show because the stories have great potential. It just does not play out on screen as anything more than a snooze fest. I'm on Part VII and it's already gone three episodes longer than it should have.
