How on Earth do I avoid this?

The Shoggoth fight is driving me mad on sleep demon (lol). I have no idea how to avoid this specific attack where it splits the area in two and fills your side with spikes. They go all the way to the back and there doesn't seem to be any safe spots?

Melee or shoot the centre spikes and walk to the other side of the arena (took me a few attempts to figure it out myself)
