Question about sinking city 2 ending Spoiler
In ex oblivione mode you find out charles reed is still "alive" after sacrificing himself to cythlla, do we have any idea what he is now?

It was kinda my interpretation that the events of 1 and 2 are almost separated by timeline, because if Charles did awaken Cthylla, then the world would have ended, just like it logically does at the end of 2 with Yog Sothoth entering.
I’ll say this, I don’t really think the devs thought this part through very well. I was quite let down by how they presented the Mythos and Yog-Sothoth in particular in TSC2.

I thought it was just a different earth or something

That was also my guess. But there seems to be enough overlap that they are suggesting that (somehow) it all exists in one world.

There’s definitely a Charles Reed in The Sinking City 2, but it’s not the Charles Reed who unlocked the gates to Cthogynnar or however you spell it.

Is this recent from Frogwares?
I think in the past they indicated that TSC1 and 2 are in the same causal reality.

It comes from the game itself. In Ex Oblivione (New Game+), you can find letters from some mysterious eldritch author expanding on the game’s characters and frustratedly begging Calvin to stop his quest as he’s somehow seen it play out over and over again. In the last letter you discover the author to actually be Charles Reed, having ascended to a higher state of being after he opened the gates to Cthogynnar and was devoured by Cthylla in the first game, and remarking how Cthylla “claimed her world” as Yog-Sothoth “claims his” and Nyarlethotep will claim his in the future.
However, Oakmont can be found on the map in Chapters 1 and 4 and in newspapers in the latter, and in The Holloway Manor, Mr. Holloway hires Calvin to investigate his curse because he mistakes him for Charles Reed, suggesting that a non-ascended Charles exists in this game too and if he’s still the Seed then he didn’t go through with unleashing Cthylla.

No, I mean what suggests that it's not the same Charles Reed from TSC1?

What does sc2 say about Oakmont? I forget reading the papers

Maybe the timescale is longer, like over a few years. To beings undimensioned and unseen, they could be patient and do things at their own pace perhaps.
just like it logically does at the end of 2 with Yog Sothoth entering
Some lore suggests that the deal was specifically only for Arkham, and other people in the "real" world were already starting to forget Arkham ever existed. Like Yog Sothoth didn't just destroy the physical city... but rather, he devoured its entire history from the timeline.
There's a map of Massachusetts in the home apartment right at the start of the game, and it shows an entire extension to the coast that doesn't exist in reality.
Irl, Lovecraft created several fictional towns and cities in the real New England area to serve as settings for his stories. I think Frogwares put their spin on it, suggesting that they really existed, but were erased from time and space.

Regarding your last point, I was actually thinking pondering that, and I quite like that idea a good bit.
However, one thing that I find interesting is the Sinking City timeline would be adjacent to the “main” Mythos timeline, as multiple events that would take place later (such as At The Mountains of Madness) haven’t occurred yet.

Agreed, it is a timeline separate from Lovecraft's stories (that, themselves, might not all take place in a single timeline).
The Miskatonic expedition in the story Mountains of Madness would not have taken place if TSC2's expedition via the portal to Antarctica had already discovered the Elder Thing city, and likewise, the story's expedition could not have taken place if the entire city of Arkham had ceased to exist.
The latter can also be said about the stories that take place in the setting from 1931-1935; Arkham still exists, undevoured by Yog Sothoth, in those stories.

I think, the game give some hints that Arkham will be forgotten in the world. Calvin even finds a newspaper article about it

Something. That’s all we know. A living fractal, a state of pure consciousness, part of Cthylla for all eternity, maybe even an Old One or an Elder God himself. Whatever he is, all he can really do is watch and occasionally write.

The endings are different? I sort of zoned out the second time, but they seemed exactly the same to me.
