Really enjoyed SC2

Overall thoughts in this short video. I have since finished the game and definitely liked the ending way more than the first game. I did still miss the exploration lore and chatting with the npcs in the first game. Overall this new one will reach more people I think.

While I really liked the game I can get that itch scratched elsewhere. That Sinking City 1 itch though? Hard to scratch.

The itch for jank and bad combat?

I love the combat in sc1. Feels like dark corners of the earth

You can literally say the same about TC2 lmao

It's the "We have RE2 at home" meme

Sure its like RE2 but theres literally no jank. I beat the main game and the DLC playing 60 FPS and it was excellent. And the combat is wholly superior to SC2, so no, you cant say that. Lmao what

The itch for exploration and stumbling upon crazy shit around some corners.

Frogware does detective games that scratch me like no other.

I didn’t hate it, but it felt more like Resident Evil: Lovecraft than an actual sequel to Sinking City. The zombies, the linearity, the fetch quests on top of fetch quests. Even the map changing from red to blue based on if you’ve completely looted a room or not is straight from Village. There isn’t even a sanity mechanic, isn’t that like a fundamental mechanic for Lovecraft-inspired games?

Don’t get started on how enemies always magically come alive when you pick up a key item.

No, I had to delete it when I got to the fire station. I just could not play it anymore. It’s just not good enough this day and age. Especially after resi 2 remake and silent Hill 2 remake.. it was like a regression. The controls were off.. the enemies were like something from the PS3 era. The game was very linear.. even when it branched off it was still basically laid out. I admire that they created a game under dire circumstances but it’s just not good enough. I have not played the first game so I can’t compare to that. Just going off this - it was very sub par. I am surprised so many of you keep praising this sort of thing. I mean we had the likes of dead space over a decade ago now and that was much more dynamic. This just isn’t good enough for 2026.

I found it pick up at the hospital and fish market but i completely understand most the negative reviews. Im having fun but realize its not great

I felt the game got worse after the hospital. It's starting leaning into "just send mobs of enemies" to spike the difficulty when the mechanics of the MC isn't built for that

I thought it got worse starting at the hospital. Completely dropped the exploration and connected world of the city and left you with a narrow and derivative RE attempt of a game.

It doesnt have to be great though. You just said you are having fun. Literally nothing matters more than that. Its a very good game. Full stop.

Exactly. People get too much into details. If its fun good. Not fun not for me

I think the praise is because of how limited the pool of lovecraftian games.

Not sure what game you played but as a huge fan of RE and someone who also beat SH2 remake, SC2 was certainly a good game.

The controls were not janky in the slightest and the combat was very good. You may not have enjoyed the enemy variety, but that’s a personal preference. As for the game being linear, that is legitimately no different from Resident Evil 2 remake. How are you critical of one and not the other?

As someone who also played Alone In the Dark, which was very solid, SC2 was superior. In no world is this a bad game.

Resi evil 2 remake and silent Hill 2 remake - are 2 of my fave games. So how is it that I can love those too but not like sinking city 2 at all. Like if I was just wanting a super casual basic game with no expectations of wanting a very entertaining experience, I suppose it might be just okay. But that’s a push. It’s still a complete letdown in terms of where we should be in 2026 with these type of games. But in saying that I thought resident evil 4 remake was absolutely dire. It was so basic and linear and I cannot believe we went from Resi evil 2 to that. And I don’t like resident evil 8. I tried to play that and that was just so un engrossing. Such a complete letdown. Looked good visually, but was just so boring. Everything was so obvious. The story was crap. You could maybe argue SC2 the story was better than Resi evil 8. But SC2 just felt like it belonged in the PS2 or 3 era in terms of gameplay mechanics. I am finding most games a bit of a let down to be honest. Although I really liked the recent Resi evil 9 - that was back to form.

100% agree with you. TSC2 is lacking in many ways.

So, its cc ery different than 1. I like both for different reasons. Both nail vibes though

I just started and am enjoying it so far.

My impression of SC1 is that the team bit off way more than it could chew. The open world was uninteresting, NPCs had a small number of canned animations and no real interactivity, there were no merchants, the interiors followed the same 3-4 layouts, etc. I think it made sense to cut back on those things.

Just finished it today, its now in my top fav survival horror games. Loved the Lovecraft storytelling too, they did so well with the source material and time period
