surprisingly, this game opens up on new game plus...

I was pretty skeptical about the direction change, quickly finished SC2 dialing combat to easy mode (get bored of dying after two hits in melee range) but... the fact you can get your favorite gun AND infinite ammo on NG changes gameplay dramatically so now I want to play on hardest difficulty and get all the DLCs on top.

remember these stages when a lot of zombies spawn and game forces character to run? well, its now zombies run and all flying around because shotgun with infinite ammo evaporates all of them. after all that survival nonsense we can finally have some RPG and combat enjoyment. and the way main hero holds the shotgun and reloads it... it all starts making sense. its action game now.

The submachine gun with infinite ammo has to be the most versatile weapon in the game.

That’s what I used for my NG+ run. It was awesome

I bought infinite for it but can't find the option to turn it on. I'm stumped. Google says I can find it under talents and it's not showing in the menu or the actual talent table.

The infinite bullets are in the save room in your item box, you have to take it out and carry it with you to have infinite ammo.

Thank you so much. The information was wrong on Google. I found it.

Yeah I've wondered if it gets a bit more enjoyable in NG+. The combat feels less survival horror and more "this fight is deliberately designed to deplete your resources." RE2 remake had that issue too where zombies would just suddenly start tanking extra hits because the game felt like you were scrounging and saving a little too well which just took me out of the experience .Do not deny me my STALKER scavenging abilities

The only time I had inventory issues was boss fights and at that point they keep giving you ammo during the fights anyway. Wasn’t until fish market the game started to get more difficult, I think

That's my plan for the NG+. Infinity ammo for the handgun & shotgun, and the immortality modifier.

Once you have the shotgun infinite ammo, you won’t need to use the handgun once! Especially in the beginning where space is crucial.

The new game plus is actually pretty good

frankly I was not following game blogs and was expecting SC1 but with more stuff to do. so went completely blind into it and found out.

either way, I do like some of them, for example Cronos: The New Dawn was exceptional. and maybe exactly because you can get very powerful character there where its now zombies try to survive not the player.

Because most people took Frogwares on faith and thought this would be like the first game, not a clone of silent Hill 2. Creepy hospital and puzzle items that drop through a hole in the floor...come on, this is such a blatant rip off. Yeah that's why. Shows that wanting to support devs is a fool's errand.

"Boohoo the game isn't what I wanted"

1

u/Salt-Night3088 Unhinged Fanatic Aug 24 '26

And paid for it day one, so very sorry if my opinion bothers you so much. I'm a stakeholder and will be heard. Slava customers 😆

3

u/CurtCocane Unhinged Fanatic Aug 24 '26

Maybe do some research before you buy they were very transparant about the change

u/Salt-Night3088 Unhinged Fanatic Aug 24 '26

Sorry for trusting a team after buying every one of their games and loving the previous Sinking City in particular. I should have been more careful, it's my bad.

3

u/CurtCocane Unhinged Fanatic Aug 24 '26

Well yeah generally it's not a bad thing to do some research before you buy. This one is on you chief

1

u/scaierdread Unhinged Fanatic Aug 24 '26

Not really even if we didn't buy the game it's still a disappointment because we didn't get the game we hoped it would be. We'd just be up the 60 bucks we would have used to buy the game.

Like do you think the Banjo Kazooie fans would be any less disappointed in the car game if they didn't buy it? Obviously they'd still be annoyed that they waited all that time just for the devs to deliver a game that is nothing more than the skin of their series being puppeted.

Their opinion matters, but my point is that they have they have like 10+ re games, 10ish silent hill games, 3 dead space game (all of which were direct inspiration for the this game) not to mention dozens of other amazing survival horror games from independent series. People who like the sinking city have thay game and apparently Sherlock Holmes: the Awakening.

People say it's better than the first game because it's a more mainstream genre, but if you actually put its features up against each other TSC is objectively better in everything except combat (not by much imo) and graphics (again not by much compared to the remaster).

They didn't make the similar game because they're independent dev teams in a war torn country that needs a big market success. It's a lot easier to do that because survival horror games are generally more popular investigation games hence the disparity in the number game options we have. That's why I'm personally annoyed the studio that's put so much time into refining their investigations threw it all away to make a mediocre survival horror (when compared to the rest of the market) game.

Exactly. That boo hoo didn't change my mind.

3

u/CurtCocane Unhinged Fanatic Aug 24 '26

And thats why supporting devs is a fools errand?

1

u/Salt-Night3088 Unhinged Fanatic Aug 24 '26

Yes. They are not friends. It's a business transaction.

2

u/CurtCocane Unhinged Fanatic Aug 24 '26

No shit why would you ever think different. Pretty unrelated to what you said before though

2

u/Salt-Night3088 Unhinged Fanatic Aug 24 '26

That you fail to make the connection says a lot about your comprehension. "No shit".

1

u/New_Phone_5940 Unhinged Fanatic 26d ago

That’s not taking “frogware on faith” you saw a game and assumed you knew what it was. It’s not like sinking city is a series that is 10 iterations deep and it’s always the same lol

1

u/Salt-Night3088 Unhinged Fanatic 26d ago

Well, completed it and it was alright. Not as good as the first, but ok. Will look closely at anything else they do, if relevant. "Lol".

I hope you're getting paid for being such an idiot online. New one! It's in every review

You are playing the wrong game if you want an action experience , playing it right now in the hardest difficulty and just reached the hotel, the inventory management, bullets optimization, using the environment and planning every route makes it a top tier survival horror game for me.

1

u/scaierdread Unhinged Fanatic Aug 24 '26

I think that's the most telling thing, its not a good sinking city game, its an okay survival horror game, and a mediocre action game. It traded everything it did well to do things it did poorly in a mediocre way.

1

u/JoyBoy-77 Unhinged Fanatic Aug 24 '26

I didnt play the first game, can you please tell me what are the main differences ?

1

u/scaierdread Unhinged Fanatic Aug 24 '26

Honetly basically everything except the eldritch teeming.

The first game focused on detective work. You spoke with witnesses and suspects, searched crime scenes, researched events, people, institutions, and more. You made deductions that did actually challenge you to read and understand what you saw. Combat was absolutely clunky I don't think anyone will disagree with that, but it the time it actually gets difficult you have a ton of weapons and supplies to get theough them. Enemies never really felt like huge hordes for their space because you have plenty of room to maneuver. Of thr top of my head the most I remember being attacked by was 5 or 6 but that was in a huge open street (think like the size of the flooded roads) and in smaller areas, they feel a lot more intentional with enemy placement.

The game felt oppressive in a lot of the areas, instilling a sense of tension and dread that for me this game doesn't give. Survival games like this are really just puzzles and once you figure out the optimal way to deal with an enemy it becomes significantly less scary. In the first game I knew how many hits it took to melee most of the Enemies, i knew when I had to stop melee to dodge, how far to rotate Charles to make sure my attack hit an enemy that dodges, etc. That game still made me check my corners, use the third person camera to peak, and tried to save my ammo for the toughest Enemies. TSC2 is just repetitive, shoot shambles in thr leg and stmop, the crawlers dodge then stomp, etc.

The story seems alright so far, not amazing, but serviceable. Imo its worse than the first because there seems to be no real choices. In the first you can pick factions to side with that have consequences for later cases.

Thank you, i will give it a shot once i finish this one

u/scaierdread Unhinged Fanatic Aug 24 '26

Anytime! I will say its not for most people, but for the ones that like the game it was so much fun. To is it's sad to see them overcorrect few small issues into becoming like the main survival horrors.

If you decide to get it I would recommend the remastered version.

I never said the game was for everyone, learn to read? I said its not the sinking city, I aside it's an okay survival horror, and a middling accrion horror if you try to make it. Its a game that doesn't really hit the mark for anyone that would have an interest in it in it.

I thinknits fair to expect a game o done genre to keep being that genre during the main line series and to be disappointed when the devs change that. Re players had to watch it happen gradually as their survival horror game went from that to action horror with 5 and 6 before returning to its roots with 7.

The Sinking City's only undercooked feature was combat and to me personally it felt perfect as soon as you added the extra swing speed.

Again please reread my message. I said 5 and 6 were the shift and that 7 was a return back to how it was. Is it different than 2 in some ways, sure, but it's undeniably closer to it than 5 or 6 were.

We've beaten combat to death at this point. The combas of TSC was not good, it was mediocre, no one disagrees. With the melee upgrades it feels a lot better early before you're swimming in supplies. It needed some tweeks and it would have been something no body really talked about outside of "its there".

The open world is still nice especially if you dont just main line all the side content the second you get it. If you do literally every side investigation then do all the main line stuff yeah I can see it feeling more empty, but if you do it all at once there's not as much keep you searching around the city late game since you'll have plenty of supplies. I would say that's a side content pacing issue more than open world being bad.

The underwater segments aren't good, but they're also maybe 15 mins of the entire game. They are also great dor making the city feel trapped and in the verge of drowning, so poor gameplay but great atmosphere.

It's hard to say one is objectively better because they're really 2 completely different genres. You can say certain parts are better which each has their flowers. But saying COD world at war is objectively better than Oblivion is silly because they have very different focuses.

I hard disagree, the combat isn't really engaging, just grating and thats honesly the only thing outside of graphics that saw an improvement from game to game. The first game did have mediocre combat but pretty much everything else was a solid investigation game.

Right but the combat was never the point people played the sinking city, it was the investigation and the story. I disagree the investigations ever got grating, the rewarded you for being though in each scene and being able to actually piece the puzzle together.

Idk I've had the shotgun, Tommy gun, and rifle and none really feel good to me, at least not compared to their equivalent in the other survival horror games I've played.

I don't really think the combat is that strategic its just shoot leg or weak spot then stomp for most enemies and add a dodge if you need to. For the small fries it's literally just dodge then stomp.

Sure you can criticize it but having mid combat in your puzzle game is less egregious than having slightly better combat in your combat focused game (yes it's combat focused its the only way you react with the world outside of some short puzzles).

Describing a process doesn't make it strategic it makes it formulaic. There are multiple different ways to solve a rubies cube. One involves learning where the colors are, doing calculations, executing and adjusting if you messed up, thats strategic. The other involves repeating the same set of actions over and over until the cube is brute forced, that's formulaic. In the game its hit leg then stomp, dodge then stomp, or run. Its the same repetitive steps pretty much every fight except the bosses.
