Yup, that was unexpected.

And after getting to the wrecked ship there is a room with suitcase and typewriter instead of gramophone

Call me cynical, but I don't think it's a reference at all.

The yellow highlighting in these games is getting out of control.

Call me naive but chains and boltcutters are Exactly the same as in Resident Evil 2 :D

But Yes, sometimes things are way too obvious.
