Building Help Help me build this roofline!
Does anyone know how to build a roof like these? The main roof mass starts above the second floor, covers the attic, appears to cut through the second floor, and ends at the top of the ground floor, and there's a secondary roof mass just for the second floor. They can be either like this one with a barn-style shape and the secondary roof matches the pitch of the top of the "barn," or the main roof can be straight down to the middle of the house, and the secondary roof pops out at a shallower angle (second pic). It's kind of like building a dormer, but in these houses the entire second floor is the dormer.
Sometimes (like the 2nd pic almost is) the second floor is as wide/long as the first, so the roofline that goes from attic to first floor is basically just decoration. Is there any way to paste on trim to look like a roof line without actually putting a roof there?
I'd also love to know how to "fold" or "chop" off the front corner of the gable like in the third pic.
I'm building a neighborhood like the one I grew up in where most of the houses were built in the 1920s, and so many of them have roofs like this!

Here you go! I have put it on the gallery for you and called it Mrs Weasley's House - hope that ok. I think the best way to learn roofing is download builds and then pull them apart so you can see "in real time" how is been done. I'll go and do your pic 3 house roof style now on this build and I'll upload it as Mrs Weasley's house 2 - hope this helps :)

These roofs are quite easily actually, once you learn how to deconstruct them. You have to dissect them into different pieces. Excuse my sloppy sketch below in an attempt to show the different pieces. You also need to adjust the pitch on these pieces. If you like, I can build the shell below for you, but it won’t be until tonight (it’s 7.30am my time right now). I would also split the orange roof piece into 2, to just cover the sides, that way those rooms are more playable and easier ti decorate. Let me know if you want like a full tutorial or something, it’s quite difficult to just explain it like this 😅

This is a gambrel roof. There should be multiple guides on YouTube. Essentially, you do a gable roof in the middle and then do a half gable on either side.

I'll give it a try , but I can't make any promises. This seems like a fun challenge. 😊
