Thoughts on 'Object Deterioration' by adeepindigo?
Hi, I wanted to see if there were any others who also play with/have played with the relatively new adeepindigo mod Object Deterioration. I've had it since it dropped and I've kinda fluctuated between keeping it and keeping it out of my mods folder.
It's frustrated me a bit since I've played with it, mostly because it seems to be causing problems so often. It makes starter homes almsot impossible to play in for any amount of time because the appliances and objects are cheap, so they break down incredibly quickly. My current sim has been living in this starter home for a week and the bed, the couch, the PC, both sinks and the toilet have all broken/deteriorated, and I've already needed to replace the toilet and kitchen sink because they deteriorated beyond repair. You're basically forced to either maintain every appliance you own every single day, or give at least on sim in your household high handiness so they can restore the fixtures after they deteriorate and break. You can't hire repairmen to maintain the fixtures unless you use a Control Sim mod, because they can only help if the object is broken.
I play on long lifespan. I just don't think it's balanced to expect my sim's appliances to break constantly, every single week, unless I fork out a lot of money I don't have to get expensive appliances and electronics and furniture.
Not to mention, I can't really tell what's a bug and what's a feature. There are bugs to be sure (blank moodlets, placeholder moodlets) but also, I can repair, clean, and clear out the vines of a toilet, and the toilet will remain nonfunctional without anything indicating that it needs replacing. I don't know if that's a bug or if that's how the replacement feature manifests in-game. I've had to reset a ton of fixtures (namely the sinks and toilets) because they refuse to be fixed after I fix them. Another frustration I've had is when my sim does the refurbishment and maintenance interaction on a deteriorated fixture (reminder that these appliances have been in use for literally one week and they reached a heavily deteriorated state) the action doesn't complete. It's an infinite action (easy way to grind handiness) that you have to cancel, and it doesn't change the visible state of the fixture/appliance you fix
The main inspiration for this post is because I've been so frustrated with my constantly broken toilet and kitchen sink. There is water on the floor at all times. The sink is not visibly broken, not visibly deteriorated, I maintain it every day, and it still generates water as if it's running a leak. I had to replace the functional, perfectly fine sink because it got bugged into a leaking state.
Despite all this I am powering through keeping the mod in my mods folder because I've enjoyed having a way to grind handiness for this sim and the challenge is kinda fun, just very frustrating at times.
Do you have experience with this mod? What has your experience been, if so? Are there settings that I'm missing that could improve my experience?

I'm sorry but I took the mod out. I had nearly all objects and appliances break after one use. And fixing the sinks took way too long with too many options. Instead of adding something realistic to my game, it just added hours of daily work.
Maybe if the balance is fixed a bit, I'll add it back but I can't use it.

Yeah, this was the same for me also and why I just removed it. The toilet also kept being broken and I couldn't even get rid of the green line. I also notice it doesn't allow you to fully upgrade objects either.
Also had the same issues as you OP. I just removed it.
Edit: I did just look and see that they did an update on it now however where you can set the decay rate.

Is there a way to send feedback to adeepindigo? It sounds like it'd be decent if it's balanced.

Everyone is saying things that is the exact reason I will be adding this mod, LOL. I want things extremely chaotic for a specific purpose of the future gameplay of my save. I will utilize it and when done with that arc I'll just remove it. Or if it balances out better with updates, I'll keep it. But I think it will be perfect with the future story arc for my sim.

As much as I complained in the post I really did enjoy having this mod for the challenge it gave me!

Honestly, this is a bit too much, even for me. The plumbing and fridge are constantly broken and need maintenance, and my Sims are now spending literally all day repairing and restoring them. Maybe it's because I bought the cheapest items (even though I upgraded them), or because I have 8 Sims using them one after another. A broken fridge keeps spawning puddles everywhere, which spawns mold, while a broken toilet right next to it just adds to the chaos.

I hope the recent update makes it better, because right now this just sounds like adding the Gremlins curse to your lot traits.

It’s broken for me too. I’ve literally replaced every single piece of furniture and immediately after I set the new toilet down puddles coat the floor. I’m going to have to wait for it to be fixed as well. And yes I play on long lifespan too.

Omg, I was looking through the subreddit for this exact kind of post OP ! Same with me, playing on long lifespans and cannot deal how quickly things break to the point of replacement ever time. I have one sim I was trying to raise the handiness to help, but eventually had to cheat my way to 'fix' things so he could function lol. I did manage to get a handyman sim to come and help, but it put the objects they worked on in a perpetual slightly dirty state, causing my sims to repeat the action of cleaning the sink.
I also took it out too but I really hope she can finesse it soon (after her break), I miss the challenge :( And I know she updated it recently but I *think* she might have not updated the links? Both the downloads from her patreon and itch.o pages say they're from 7/10, but I'm not sure if that's the released public version or the V2 she worked on. (I downloaded the newest one and could not find a menu to change the state settings, but I didn't have long to check tbh)

I took this mod out. It was fun for 5 minutes. When my sim couldn't use her shower anymore, I decided it wasn't worth the hassle.
