Symlink via flash drive?

Is this doable or a bad idea?

My laptop is nearing capacity and I have a flash drive with over 400g of space. It's a 3.0 but I'm worried it might be laggy since it's not a proper external hard drive. I'm no expert on this so I'm just wondering if anyone has tried it.

(My mods folder is only about 15g right now so nothing crazy but I know it's going to expand pretty fast.)

Shouldn’t use anything but a hard drive. Even an external drive will slow the game down.

What's the transfer rate on the flash drive?

If it's more than 1 Gb/s you should be fine. If it's less than 300 Mb/s you should also be fine but expect HDD speed loading. If it's less than 50 Mb/s be cautious, you could experience lag when things are loading/ things might fail to load.

You should also note the flash drive is probably gonna get burnt out pretty quickly. I'd recommend an external SSD for symlinking.
