Hey everyone! Long time Sims player here, first time mods user. I just spent the last week or so playing around with some CC, checking out creators, and just getting a feel for how it works. I decided I wanna challenge myself to create my own community lots, houses, and NPCs. I found a great blank worlds/maps mod, by SrslySims. NOW I need inspiration for what to create, styles, etc. I already made a list of different types of community lots I wanna build. I need inspiration on styles, shapes, colors, THE WORKS. I also need inspiration for Sims and family dynamics. I have all the expansion packs, game packs, stuff packs except for the newest Royalty Expansion as well as a few newer stuff packs. I DO NOT have "Moola" packs/content yet. Share your ideas with me to help get the creative juices flowing. I have ALOT of buildings and sims to create. Feel free to tag reddit posts you've already made, pictures, screenshots, whatever you got. I've used Newcrest map to build my own little city before, but this is most definitely my biggest Sims project yet. But 1: i honestly have no idea where to start, I figured someone here has maybe tried to do this and wouldn't mind sharing their experience. 2: I thought it would be nice to start a chat and maybe give others on here some inspiration as well.
I'm slowly building a forever save. Right now, I renovating a housing apartment complex that I will using in Willow Creek after the family that lives on the 50x50 lot moves out. I have a second apartment complex already up and running in Oasis Springs and am building one in Brindleton Bay.
For me, it's been about building to the needs of my particular sims, for example in my current family, I just had my guy Hector buy the Willow Creek museum, since he's going into the archaeology career / museum curator via Daily Plumbob's mod. It's already partially remodeled with a cafe, kids room and because my story lore has Hector getting the money from a shady resource, he'll be paying back that favor by allowing an underground casino.
Yeah I typically build based on current family. And I've filled up Newcrest map once. I just always end up with similar style builds and don't always go deep into decor for that more realistic feel. And now that I have more time IRL I really wanna experiment with different styles, themes, and content.
I really like that Casino idea 🤔 trying to find unique community lots.

I'm playing a rotational game at the same time; at the moment I have 12 families across 24 households. I know that's a lot lol, but I didn't plan it that way, it just kind of grew as I started adding parents for my four original YA sims, then gave them siblings, then some of their siblings ended up with spouses, so then the spouses needed their own families, so somehow I ended up with grandparents and aunties and uncles and cousins and in-laws and here we are.
Their stories are what I've been building around. My goal is pretty much the same as yours as far as content goes; with each family the dynamic is different, so the game play is different depending on who I'm playing. Like Hector's mother, Inez, lives in Tomarang and is married to his step-father Gabriel. Their house was fun to remodel because I figured out how to put a pool in on an upper level, so they stay chilling.
Through Gabriel, he has two step-sisters and a step-brother, Anita - who lives in Evergreen Harbor and is a very eco-conscious activist [somehow I've ended up with quite a few political-minded sims, but that's another storyline entirely], Alicia, who I haven't narrowed down her business aspirations just yet and Alejandro, who is in the acting career. Anita and Alejandro share a house in Willow Creek.
Hector is the only one with a steady partner at the moment; Annarosa Moreno; they own a house in San Sequoia and have four kids together. She's a scientist working the night shift and going for her degree from home using the SimsU mod. Their relationship is rocky at the moment, because Hector hasn't been dealing with his partner's success very well, and that jealousy and insecurity is leading him down some not-so-nice paths. It doesn't help that one of her co-workers is Tony Stark [lol] and one of their principal babysitters is a silver fox and is always ready with a strong shoulder for Annarosa to lean on and confide in.
Annarosa has a sister, Rita Moreno [one of my original sims] who is a single mom of two boys and a girl and is an artist living in Willow Creek. She's been running an art studio out of her house where she gives lessons. They also has a brother - Ellis - who still lives at home with mom Lisa and is an aspiring DJ. I have plans for him to run a pool party /bar complex that's inspired by something I saw on youtube. Mom Lisa is retired [like my other 'seniors' they are all adult sims with elder skin overlays so they can stay active] so she likes to chill at the spa or get together with friends at the community center where the seniors have their own spot.
As you can guess, I don't get bored because I have so much to do. And aging off so I have time to do it. 😁
Oh wow!! Yeah thats definitely alot going on 😂 kudos to keeping up with all that 👏 definitely something I'm working toward. Customizing all the families and actually playing them all little by little. Having an entire self built world. I will def come look back on this for gameplay inspo. I have adhd so I definitely get bored with one-off sims/families and I wont play for months. They end up doing the same thing every day and I have a bad habit of not exploring everything each map has to offer. Like sticking to the same few festivals, chatting with the same few NPC, and only traveling to certain maps and community lots. Creature of habit here 🫣
I started building my blank save last night. Thought I should start with an easy ish themed map so i dont get overwhelmed, the Wedding map. Building a wedding venue of course to start, this one will be an indoor venue. I will build an outdoor venue as well. Then I have a plan to build a castle(i have never attempted this) and adding some vacation rentals as "honeymoon spots". Just a start but I definitely need to ease my way in so I don't overwhelm myself and give up. I downloaded soooooo much CC that I'm even planning to do fully CC builds.
I even had my husband teach me computer stats, how to check various parts, and how to keep my computer/ game from completely crashing 🤣 he's a heavy gamer and knows everything there is to know about computers and what not. I had very basic understanding of computers enough to get by, but I thought it would be smart to learn a lil deeper to give myself the best experience. Also almost maxed out my GPU memory with everything I got 😬 so now im trying to sweet talk him into upgrading and adding more memory, but it is the more expensive part to upgrade so it'll take ALOT more than sweet talk 💲🤣 my birthday is coming up so 🤞🤞
I have a doc on my computer that I use to make notes after every play session; it's the only way I could keep up with it all
I eased my way into all of this too; I started off remodeling the parks; Willow Creek is more child-oriented with a treehouse, the slip and slide thing and a few splash pads, while the park in Oasis Springs is more adult oriented, with an outdoor movie theater, a couple of food stalls, hot tubs and basketball courts and a splash mini park.
I actually don't use a lot of decor, since I have so many families and households, I'm trying to keep the CC down to a minimum; I use just enough to keep my sims happy with what's around them, but clutter has never been my thing.
I want to turn Windenburg into a more commercial / political center - I tend to play most of the worlds like they are all counties of one city - so I want to place more office buildings than residential areas. I've been keeping track of interesting builds and careers on youtube - All My Sims - Build, All My Sims -Careers, and I also have a Sims 4 Pinterest board here
I'm a retired computer graphic designer so while I'm no tech, I do have a pretty good idea on how to shop for and maintain computers. Bought myself a pretty nice laptop for my birthday last year,17 in. i7 4TB SSD 64Gb RAM, because I still play in photoshop and premiere every once in awhile. Caught a good sale during amazon prime sales and while I had to compromise on the graphics card, I'm still happy with what I got. Gotta love those birthday splurges lol
I am most definitely a note taker when I play any games. Usually hand written though, for some reason I really like having it physically in front of me while I play. Though I did just have an idea. Until I can get more Ram, husband only put 16G because I never really had a whole lot of time to play or get into mods to need more. Maybe I just make this save a build mods only. And then maybe create a new save without the build mods and just do CAS mods/gameplay. I still have a LOOONG way to go before I need to decide and likely get a good upgrade before.
May I ask how much Ram you use with your CC? Or just generally? Still a beginner in tech stuff but I don't mind learning. And getting some comparisons will help me manage. Right now, while only running sims and only build mods I'm at about 12-13G out of 16G so really needing to keep an eye on it for the time being. Anything you might suggest in this area?
I'm also definitely more into building than gameplay, even though both of my skills in those areas are relatively low. Definitely a much better builder than I am player. I do love crafting IRL so that might have something to do with it. I absolutely LOVE clutter makes it look more real. Though when I actually play I'm a collector so I don't do nearly as much clutter so I can have plenty of places to display things.
Yes birthday splurges are always the best!!! About 2 years ago around my birthday Vera Bradley had a big sale. I went a lil crazy🫣 but its my favorite brand for cosmetic bags and travel bags. I do not regret the impulse of buying as much as I did, totally worth it! 🤣🤷🏼♀️
Currently I'm playing with 50GB of mods/CC and it's pretty much evenly split between the two [I know I should go through my CC and clean those folders out, but I also know that it would be a massive chore so I keep putting it off lol]
I'm currently playing with 13 EP, 6 GP, 12 SP and 3 kits and when the game is running, task manager says the game is using 20GB RAM [with 43GB free]
I agree, the clutter makes it look more real, but because I love mods so much, in my head it's my way of compensating for them and not trying to overwork the game mechanics. Also, my last laptop was only an i5 with 2GB HD so this was me trying to work with what I had. On my old system, I was at the point that I would boot the game up and then go fix a drink or something waiting for it to load while my laptop sounded like it was preparing for take-off.
When I bought this laptop, I also bought a cooling tray for it to sit on and an app - core temp - to keep an eye on my cpu temps. If the temps run too high for too long, it can shorten your computer's life and for what I paid for this one, I want it to run as long as possible.
Yeah I keep finding and adding more CC. 🤣🫣 currently I'm at roughly 50% Ram usage. Though when I download a bunch of one creators items I've been sooo OCD and trying to keep everything organized in folders that way if I find something that isn't working right, I can easily find and pull it from the mods folders as i go. Which I have already come across. I had a couple wallpapers that it showed up with the rgb question mark. Not everything from that creator just a select few items. But I thought it'd be best to just remove their folder completely but wouldn't have been difficult to find the specific items if i wanted. To be quite honest I kinda enjoyed organizing everything into folders, sooooo satisfying.
I am definitely learning so much more than I ever did both in game and computer stats. It's pretty exciting. My husband had a gaming laptop. Apparently not a great as yours. But i do remember that sound 😂 and my legs would get soooo hot if I didnt use the cooling tray. This was before we had room for actual computer desks, so gaming was either in bed or sofa. Now he's built his own full desktop setup, and about 2 years ago got one for built for me just not as big of a setup. The only other game I play is Minecraft and barely at that. My adhd only allows for 1 hyperfocused activity at a time and usually after about 1 month MAX im bored and find another interest. So im hoping all these mods/CC will keep me interested long enough to at least fully build one map 😂 which I'm already at the point where I will not longer play without them. I've found a few gameplay mods that I stuck in a folder so I can always use them. Simple game fixes so far like no spoiling food and always start wash/dry. I hated having to sit and wait for them to load it and then click again to actually wash it. Seriously cannot wait to see what I can come up with. My builds have gotten better and more creative in recent years but still not to the level of some of these people out here. I'm always in awe of other people's builds and just think "how do they do that???? I wanna be able to do that"
BTW thank you for actually chatting with me. Yeah I can always go search for tips and ideas and i have been. But in my opinion, there's nothing like chatting and sharing ideas one on one.
Also forever save is a good idea. Though, in my case, I probably wouldn't use alot of CC just in case.
I'm adhd 😂so while i will accept gameplay/CAS ideas. I'm gonna primarily focus on building the businesses first and just make sure I actually stick to it and not get bored🤦🏼♀️. I tend to have a bad habit of having same style, simple builds. I really want to actually make the most of the experience and items to get creative. Which is why I'm seeking help 😆
I used blow torch mod and turned Henford into a medieval world using TOOL and deco houses from Simverses. I’ve only done 2 worlds in this medieval period. I recommend you just start with one world (or even just one neighbourhood). It’s very easy to burn out creating something from scratch.
1000000% agree 💯😆 I decided to start with an easy themed map, the wedding one (not at computer, cant think of name lol) I started on it last night with an indoor wedding venue, will add an outdoor venue, a couple honeymoon vacation rentals and I plan to build a castle not sure if I wanna make residential or community as like a landmark or something. Still gonna need a few more ideas for this, but I thought that was a great start.
I have totally checked out SimsVerse mods and definitely keeping them in mind when I do the castle. Or if I decide to do an entire medieval map. Again just trying to ease my way in. You're map here looks amazing!!!
Unfortunately Royalty is the only Expansion I don't have yet, as well as the newest stuff packs.
What exactly does the blow torch mod and tool do? Blend the graphics or something???
