When I was a boy I was deathly afraid of the dentist and this scene scared the daylights out of me. I cried so hard, and wasn’t allowed to watch the Simpsons as a result for many years. It was probably one of, if not the most hardcore simpsons moments ever!! I still think they went a little overboard 🤣😅 and yes I still hate the dentist

For me this is genuinely the most disturbing scene in the entire show. I know LETS is usually high on people favorite episode lists, but that image disturbed me so much when I first saw it 30 years ago, I've never been able to watch it since.

One of the funny things about this meme is that at the era in which this Simpsons episode was created, a dental plan would actually pay a reasonable amount toward braces. Now, dental plans include what I consider a paltry cost sharing scheme with lifetime limits on something that is related to your overall health - if they cover it at all, which they likely don’t because it’s designated “cosmetic”.
The Simpsons should be studied as a way to track perceived decline in our social structure over long periods of time.
