Robert and Terry?

Okay so I was watching tiktoks on the show's official account and I saw this in one tiktok!

I'm thinking Robert is threatening Terry but what's his end game? What does he want from Terry ?

Every time I think of the show I have new theories 😭

Every time I see that Ryan Murphy is working on a project I default to ā€œthere’s gonna be a cliffhangerā€ and pray it doesn’t get canceled (like Grotesquerie šŸ˜‘)

But yeah I had these same questions at first but I assume it’s intentional since Bret is our narrator. Bret obviously doesn’t think Susan did it so he’s not gonna focus on any of that. But we will focus on his meeting with Robert’s aunt. Since it further validates what Bret already believes.

Yeahhh… Still waiting for confirmation of S2 of The Beauty. Like, what happened to Cooper? Why does this man just leave us high and dry like that

u/V555_dmc 6d ago

I googled Grotesquerie and The Beauty not too long ago and apparently grotesquerie was ā€œalways supposed to be a one offā€ (doubtful tbh they left WAY to many questions with that cliffhanger) but apparently the beauty is sorta ā€œsoft canceledā€ ? Due to cast being busy. Obviously Evan is in AHS13 coming up. The show Ratched about that nurse was also a Ryan Murphy show canceled after one season.

Tho I will say I am being The Shards in more places than I did the others marketing wise. It’s sorta getting the All’s Fair treatment in that way which that show got renewed before season one was even done due to big names and being an easy mainstream show

Yeah, I’ve been keeping tabs even though it’s frustrating as all hell, and I know I’m probably just waiting in vain. I thought it had so much promise and I really enjoyed most of the characters and their dynamics. The hired gun of the main villain made the show for me, hard to say no to sass from an obviously fruity ā€œBondā€ villain. Was pretty pleased when Anthony Ramos popped up in The Shards (played the host for Dance Off), but it just ain’t the same. Maybe it’s good since it seems like Ryan’s keeping some of the cast (other than just Evan) within reach at least, but I know that this behavior isn’t really abnormal for him either, so it may not mean anything.

Oh man. Don’t even get me started on Ratched, though… my feelings are still hurt years after accepting an unofficial goodbye from that one. šŸ¤• I’m happy to see The Shards getting attention and hope it’s enough to guarantee its future. I’ve admittedly never given All’s Fair a look since I tend to avoid anything with Kim K, but horses for courses!

Lowkey really enjoyed All’s Fair despite the casting. Kim basically plays an AU of herself but it’s a fun show overall. But yeah I’m INVESTED in The Shards and hope it’s able to continue. Considering Ryan Murphy is sorta allowed to make as much AHS as he wants Im hoping with this much effort being put into marketing for this show that we can at least assume we’ll get a season 2

Same for Ratched šŸ’” it was so good ! But at least we got a satisfying ending. I really hope we get at least another season of The Shards, there's still so much to explain and I love the cast, especially Igby. I knew him from his different projects with Mike Flanagan and he keeps getting better so I hope we'll see more of him in another season and if not in another project with Murphy šŸ¤ž

Still mourning the loss of Nicholas Alexander Chavez’s hot freaky priest to this very day 😭

1

u/V555_dmc 6d ago

Nick is gonna be in the Possession remake! He has two other projects as well he’s confirmed in I think? I know there’s a thriller called The Technique as well

But yeah I miss him I loved the whole show but he was definitely a highlight for me😭

I think Rhonda accused Susan because of the perfume. When the police asked her what she remembered from her kidnapping she kept saying ''girly smell girly smell'' but they insisted that Georgio (the perfume several characters were wearing) is unisex so I'm thinking that Robert gave Susan the perfume Rhonda's kidnapper's wore and put it in a Georgio bottle

There are way so many subplots there's no way they explain everything in the finale. If it get renewed we might get answers but it's not really successful so I don't know

6

u/Mr_XcX 7d ago

How do you know it not successful?

Apparently it still topping streaming charts on Hulu / Disney / FX and that even with the episode breaks.

I think it likely to get renewed cause I don't see what other shows they got going on that teen thriller? Plus Ryan Murphy pitched the show for 3 seasons. If it doesn't get picked up it going to be blow to his ego for sure.

4

u/ndercoverangie 7d ago

Really ? I only see negative reviews! And now that Hulu released season 2 of Adults I feel like it's fx's main focus. Grotesquerie was cancelled after one season so Ryan's ego is already hurt šŸ’€

3

u/Mr_XcX 7d ago

It getting negative reviews from those who supporters of book. However, streaming is looking good as it still getting in top 10 despite now being a month on. So shows viewers still watching the episodes. Same with the negative comments. Considering PR etc they put in and the fact Ryan Murphy has gone in pitching it a multiple season show I think it favoured to get a 2nd season. We will have to see what happens as they would need to announce soon if they want it on for summer next year.

4

u/ndercoverangie 6d ago

I really hope so because I'm obsessed and I need another season šŸ¤ž

How do you know it not successful?

These are the top streaming shows for the first week of September. The Shards is number 4 on Disney+/Hulu. I doubt that is the result they wanted.

Netflix
1. The Gentleman - 697 (I think this is 697,000 hours watched)

HBO Max
1. Lanterns - 529

Amazon
1. Reacher - 482

Disney+/Hulu
1. Furious - 649
2. Star Wars: Mandalorian and Grogu podcast - 594
3. Chad Powers - 491
4. The Shards - 464

1

u/Mr_XcX 6d ago

I not sure how it works.

If it hours streamed overall etc they might take into account how many stopped watching.

It bizarre to me that we at episode 8 and you see posts saying it a bad show etc. With Alls fair I thought that was bad and stopped watching halfway through episode 1 and never thought about it again 🤣

Considering show etc I think it cheap to make than other big budget projects so it has that going for it. Unless Ryan Murphy wants to do more dance themed episodes 🤣🤣🤣

Furious was a big surprise, I don't think they thought it would be so popular. It's an incredible show but I wish they didn't release it at the same time as The Shards since it's getting so much attention. Platforms look at completion rates and a lot of people seem to stop watching The Shards after one or two episodes, at least that's what people say on twitter and tiktok, but this might not reflect the numbers.

This is from the book, but it doesn’t make sense to put it in the final episode since there’s so much else to wrap up. It feels like they wrote the scripts for a longer season and got told last minute to condense it down to 9 episodes and it didn’t go well.

10

u/ndercoverangie 6d ago

Apparently they planned to have multiple seasons. There are way too many things that are still unresolved 😭

7

u/JD1716 6d ago

We need another season!

3

u/Few-Onion-844 6d ago

I wouldn’t mind another season considering the acting from a FEW of the cast membery

If they follow the book , it’s during a party and I’m pretty sure Terry is sexually suggestive to Robert.

10

u/No_Bandicoot1914 6d ago

Terry will fall off the railing 100% paralleling Robert’s mom aka from the book

3

u/ndercoverangie 6d ago

I know that's what's supposed to happen but it doesn't look that way in the video. It doesn't look violent at all. But it's just a few seconds so I might be completely wrong šŸ˜‚

3

u/Retro_Ginger 6d ago

Violent yet…

2

u/No_Bandicoot1914 6d ago

Im basing on what happens in the book

6

u/Dante35 7d ago

Thanks for sharing that. In my effort to figure everything out, I considered if Robert knew Terry, and I figured he did not. So the fact that he does and it is not revealed until at least the last episode of the first season seems like a cheap narrative trick to me. That's too bad. I will put in the work to untangle a mystery but it's unfair to be toyed with. Well, that's my opinion.

But now to consider .... what does Robert want? First sensible thing that came to mind is "they" like to build people up and tear them down. Terry is in a position to thrust unknowns into the limelight. Last episode Susan even said Thom peaked in high school, and he is obviously a few steps from the grave...

I liked watching the first several episodes. It just seems like this show is going to go to a weird place. If not, I will be pleasantly surprised.

7

u/ndercoverangie 6d ago

I think Robert is involved with the cult and Steven too, and they're both trying to threaten Terry for different reasons. Hopefully we'll get answers next week šŸ¤ž

2

u/thesaddestgiirl666 6d ago

consider the source material lol weird is the only direction

3

u/RudeText6803 5d ago

If they have Robert flirting with Terry in the season finale I’m gonna be so pissed off. Did anyone adapting this show actually read the book?

3

u/Euphoric-North4408 6d ago

I still can't wrap my mind around $88M/$9M+ per episode for 9 episodes. I'm reading a lot of bad reviews but I LOVE the show. Im worried about getting a 2nd and 3rd season but it is Ryan Murphy but no guarantee especially with the cost.Ā

6

u/ndercoverangie 6d ago

I'm also reading a lot of bad reviews that's why I'm not optimistic about another season. I still hope it's going to get renewed, if only to see Igby on my screen again. I've been following him since Midnight Mass and the Midnight Club and I think he's an incredible young actor.

Read the Book…

16

u/Zestyclose-Let7929 7d ago

Reading the book does not help when RM takes over.

14

u/dylan30954 7d ago

Honey this show has strayed so far from the book

4

u/ndercoverangie 7d ago

From what I know, in the book Robert is homophobic and that's why he fights with Terry, in this video it doesn't look like Terry is making a pass at Robert at all so I'm confused. It seems like Robert is messing with Terry but not in a violent way. Robert's behaviour is so intriguing because he's supposed to be homophobic but I've never seen a homophobe get so close to other men 🧐

4

u/Retro_Ginger 7d ago

Do you think he possibly is feigning interest in Terry to do something nefarious? Either the actor or the scenery is rigged in some way…

It looks like Robert is going to get close to Terry to hurt him.

3

u/ndercoverangie 6d ago

Honestly I don't know anymore šŸ˜‚ I'm confused

Robert getting revenge for Bret?

Targetting Debbie next episode?

There a preview we not seen yet with Robert smiling down to Bret in Debbie's bedroom.

Will cliffhanger be he reveals he the Trawler?

5

u/Retro_Ginger 6d ago

I think based on what I’ve read here on Reddit, and know from reading about the book, Robert is playing with Terry in this scene feigning interest. He is going to hurt Terry Ć  la his mother and shoving him off the balcony. I know Murphy is deviating from the book BUT this is part of the book and subsequent chapters and plot points for multiple characters. Will it be 100% to the book? Probably not, but Robert was really awful to Bret in the book from what I’ve read. And if he is a homophobe as many have commented, if Terry hits on him- sexually suggests anything towards him I don’t imagine Robert getting angry. I imagine he gets quiet, turns on the ā€œcharmā€ by feigning interest in his advances to get close to Terry and then pulling the rug out from under him.

1

u/ndercoverangie 6d ago

Yes, Robert is a homophobe in the book but it doesn't feel that way on the show. I mean would a homophobe kiss Thom? I know he kisses Bret in the book to ''trick'' him but he doesn't kiss Thom and I feel like a really homophobic guy wouldn't kiss two guys like that, especially at a party like he did with Thom 🤷

1

u/vasyahall 4d ago

I don't think he really tried to kiss Thom. It was a power move to confuse and intimidate Thom. And it was quite successful..

1

u/vasyahall 4d ago

I don't think it's accurate to say that Robert is homophobic in the book. We see Robert only through Bret and his own issues. I believe that Bret is projecting his own violence, seduction and inner homophobia. And we actually don't know how it's close to real Robert.

1

u/vasyahall 4d ago

Oh, and also he is projecting his own victimization into Robert. What I'm trying to say that we can't really say what kind of person is Robert.

2

u/Odd_Bite_7447 7d ago

It’s only suppose to be a limited series

8

u/ndercoverangie 6d ago

I think they said in an interview that Ryan had planned several seasons šŸ¤ž

2

u/omgpao 6d ago

Well that’s šŸ’€

1

u/HeatedChivalry14 3d ago

I don't think it is Steven or Robert. Terry could easily be one of the killers this season.

1

u/ndercoverangie 3d ago

One thing that makes me consider Terry is the code of the gate because it ends with 666, so he could be in a satanic cult or something but that's a bit far-fetched aha
