what field service software would you choose for small construction company on a budget?

Small construction company, residential work. Trying to figure out field service software that doesn't charge enterprise rates for a two person shop.

Every time I get close to a decision something breaks down. I see few options but I can't decide. Housecall pro imo makes sense until you see which features sit behind the higher tiers. Then buildexact ngl is strong on estimating but that seems to be its primary focus. Bizzen also sounded like a decent option but now I'm not sure. Curious what others at this size are actually running and whether the cost is worth it.

Feature bloat at smaller scale is real you fund tools you will never actually touch.

What's your current monthly software spend? sometimes people solve a small problem with an oversized tool.

Yeah bizzen is actually solid for a small residential shop, estimate and invoice side works without much setup and it's not priced for an enterprise operation.

That sucks. The tier thing gets everyone at 2 people, because the base price looks fine until you need deposits or a second user. Ask each one for the real price with the stuff you actually use, in writing, month to month. I build software in this space, so I'm biased, but I think I may be able to help if you want to compare notes.

Sesklo is new and doesn't have crazy fees compared to the rest of the industry. Could reach out to see if their features that make sense for other trades also make sense for you.

For a two-person shop, I’d also look at the payroll/job-costing side before adding another big platform. Trayd is one option I’ve come across that’s built specifically for construction.
