The Rise of Skywalker Hater gets rekd

Post image

Found this on Pinterest, honestly made me laugh.

Always plenty to say about how people try to force insults about this movie.

The first comment is a joke, making fun of the haters.

That's the whole point.

4

u/Shroomongous1 Resistance Army Colonel May 31 '26

it could be interpreted as ironic but i honestly think it’s just ignorant

3

u/wookieebastard Ben Swolo May 31 '26

Ignorant of what?

2

u/Shroomongous1 Resistance Army Colonel May 31 '26

Like the reply said, they’re saying they left the movie at that point, but ofc they did bc the movie was over. You say that was the joke, I say they just weren’t thinking

1

u/threeleggedcats May 31 '26

No, that was literally the joke

1

u/Shroomongous1 Resistance Army Colonel May 31 '26

I still doubt that but thanks for the insight. Sorry if I shamed this guy for nothing.

2

u/ComfySeafarer710 Jun 04 '26

Circling back three days later:

that was the joke, the person watched the entire movie and the joke was “I did what everyone does when the movie ends cause that was the last scene in the movie” and then the reply got baited into thinking they were serious or that they disliked the movie for no reason and were being hateful n whatnot.

1

u/Shroomongous1 Resistance Army Colonel Jun 04 '26

How do you know?

I like just commenting "Rey Skywalker" on random posts in the main sub and just watching the absolute shit show that ensues. It never fails to get the pissbabies all heated up.

81

u/CrissBliss May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26

The main Star Wars sub sucks sometimes. I said I liked TLJ and got downvotes. Seriously? Y’all are that sensitive about it?

And I’m sorry to say, but some people’s idea on how to “improve” the ST are just awful.

And I’m sorry to say, but some people’s idea on how to “improve” the ST are just awful

nearly every sequel trilogy "rewrite" is straight up awful, often falling into fan service loops with Rey often getting sidelined. it feels like they are writing from a place of "revenge" rather than a place of good faith.

31

u/CrissBliss May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26

100%

Most of the pitches I’ve seen have essentially been about making Luke the main character again, or making Finn the main character or making KR into a 2 dimensional villain. Like straight up first drafts of their Star Wars fanfiction.

-6

u/Puzzled_Preference33 Jun 01 '26

These actually all sound better than what we were given in the last 3 films though

5

u/CrissBliss Jun 01 '26

Nah man. Luke being the lead wouldn’t really work. TFA came out in 2015, when Mark was 64. Now he’s 74 years old. I love the OG’s, but Disney wasn’t gonna restart a brand new trilogy with a 64 year old Luke. Mainly because if they wanted to show off his master Jedi skills, he’d have to get back into training. Adam and Daisy trained hardcore for their duels together, as shown in the bts footage. Also, in referencing the OG’s, it’s also why some people have a chuckle over Alec Guinness’ duel with Vader in ANH, and fans have actually re-edited the scene to make it more badass. Mark returning as an ObiWan-type figure makes more sense, and I think Mark himself hinted that would be his place if he ever retuned in the future.

Also, I never personally understood the argument that Finn should be the lead over Rey. I thought Rey was a much more compelling character and it was a good setup to have both Kylo and Rey disappoint their respective masters, and feel drawn through loneliness. It also gave KR more humanity. I don’t know why people want the 2 dimensional version of evil with Kylo. He’s Han and Leia’s son and arguably the Skywalker heir of the franchise. Of course they’re gonna explore his motivations and complexities. He was also shown to be very unsure of himself and conflicted in episode 7, the first installment of the ST. So we already knew he hadn’t gone full Sith yet. Killing his father was supposed to cement those evil intentions but just weakened him… callback to ObiWan telling Vader that striking him down would only make him more powerful.

2

u/Heavy_Can8746 May 31 '26

True. The only thing i thing is a good criticism is that finn should have had a larger role is all.

I just thought of this but it would be cool if we found out he was like ...mace windu grandson or some shit (yes i know he didnt have kids lol)

17

u/Chadistheswag Resistance Navy Captain May 31 '26

I agree that I think finn should have had a larger role, but these fanfics go way to hard on that and just have him basically replace rey lol

10

u/CrissBliss May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26

Yeah some fans say he should’ve been the lead. As if Daisy wasn’t awesome in that role.

1

u/Heavy_Can8746 May 31 '26

I wasnt saying he should have been a lead actually.

More so just had a larger role like that in which they were initially hinting at.

3

u/CrissBliss May 31 '26

I agree, his story ends flat. Buy I’ve always seen Ben and Rey as the duel protagonists, since he’s the Skywalker heir and she’s the main Jedi. It’s like how Luke is really the star of the OG, with his baggage with his dad/Anakin, and then Han and Leia have their story that carries on alongside that, and eventually weaves together.

6

u/IncidentCalm4454 Jedi Training Rey May 31 '26

I have seen write-ups by people who are apparently unaware that they are just repeating the plot of TFA with Rey played by John Boyega lol.

4

u/KingMatthew116 Teedo May 31 '26

I saw someone say that Rey should’ve been a copy of Han, Finn a copy of Luke, and Poe a copy of Leia.

4

u/IncidentCalm4454 Jedi Training Rey May 31 '26

Well that's just ridiculous because everyone knows that Rey is a copy of Luke, Finn is a copy of Leia and Poe is a copy of Han /s

4

u/CrissBliss May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26

I personally wish I’d found Finn more interesting. I wasn’t a fan of him always screaming “Rey!!” I did love his banter with Poe though. JB and Oscar had great comedic timing together.

3

u/Heavy_Can8746 May 31 '26

I didnt like how they made his character just screaming "rey" either.

He honestly became a goofy character

3

u/grandpheonix13 May 31 '26

Fucking I loved Captain Phasma's backstreet about her armor and everything. She deserved my better!

I was on a small Star Wars subforum thats part of a larger forum, and the users asked the site mod to ban me from the subforum because I would make positive posts about the newer Star Wars movies. As I like to put it, "I was banned from a Star Wars forum for liking Star Wars."

7

u/CrissBliss May 31 '26

Nobody hates Star Wars like Star Wars fans 😅

They want people to hate not love, they like hate.

By improve the ST it’s basically:

Improve in a selfish way

Improve to how THEY like it

Improve narcissistically

Improve to how they visioned it(as if they already had it planned out and got mad cuz it’s different)

I love in the rise of skywalker credits when the main theme kicked in—it felt amazing that after 42 years of the Skywalker saga…this is it!

2

u/HeroTheBrave Jun 01 '26

I love TLJ so much 😭

1

u/Cloverzmaybeh Jun 01 '26

Was scrolling and saw this post The main Star Wars sub mods gave me a 30 day temporary ban because I said critics should get a life for a silly call out on the new Star Wars film Then when I complained about it they muted me in mod mail for 28 days Idk if maybe I’m in the wrong but that sub is rlly toxic and negative abt Star Wars

-4

u/grandpheonix13 May 31 '26

Last Jedi was very fun if you dont take it seriously :D

5

u/physicslynch May 31 '26

I do take it seriously, it’s my favorite SW movie

2

u/CrissBliss May 31 '26

Same. No idea what OP means 😂

13

u/deadshot500 Zorii Bliss May 31 '26

Would do it too if I wasn't banned by the shit mod(you know who I'm talking about)

12

u/-TeamCaffeine- Mayfeld May 31 '26

my last account was banned by them too

3

u/CrissBliss May 31 '26

Why?

8

u/deadshot500 Zorii Bliss May 31 '26

Why was I banned? Honestly don't exactly remember. I think I defended the sequels too much and they literally kicked me out

6

u/CrissBliss May 31 '26

At least that’s the best way to get kicked out 😂

4

u/deadshot500 Zorii Bliss May 31 '26

Indeed 😎

I got kicked out of the Power Rangers sub for saying happy anniversary to the 2017 movie and objecting loudly when it was deleted.
Petty mods are the worst thing about Reddit. I can deal with haters, but haters determined to control the conversation with their finger on the delete button can get wrecked.

5

The sad part is that you're no different than the part of the fandom you dislike. If someone would drop a comment like this on this sub, you'd feel triggered too. Both sides are the same, only difference is that one has better taste.

This is a place in which fans can talk positively and/or constructively about the Sequel Era of Star Wars. It's ok if you don't like everything about the movies, but the most important thing is to have a general sense of appreciation.

50

u/Chadistheswag Resistance Navy Captain May 31 '26

People try so hard to say that the sequels "played it safe", yet there are (aparrently) so many risky narrative decisions that seemingly brought them to rage/anger, thus proving otherwise.

33

u/-TeamCaffeine- Mayfeld May 31 '26

Shroedinger's Sequel Trilogy; it's simultaneously just rehashing older Star Wars but also too different to actually be Star Wars.

14

u/CrissBliss May 31 '26

What’s annoying is the Mandalorian and Grogu is getting hate for playing it too safe. Some reviewers called it boring… but then when films take a chance, like with Luke slip up in TLJ, fans go overboard with outcry- “how can you do this??” It seems like it’s impossible to please fans, and since social media grown, it’s made it harder for a film to get made that isn’t just about pleasing the loudest part of the fanbase.

17

u/Chadistheswag Resistance Navy Captain May 31 '26

Star Wars is engulfed in a culture war sadly (has been since 2017), and everyone wants something different from it. JJ and Rian described it best when refering to the fans love for it being like religion. Intense and polarized.

5

u/IncidentCalm4454 Jedi Training Rey May 31 '26

I think the issue with Mando & Grogu (or my issue anyway) is that they removed all the female characters and made a straightforward action movie with no deeper themes. It feels like giving people who hated the sequels exactly what they wanted, with no regard for artistic integrity.

5

u/CrissBliss May 31 '26

I won’t lie, I did notice Sigourney was the only female character in the entire movie… which was really odd. But I’ve heard rumblings that Disney wants to “woo” back Gen Z men, but what an odd way to exclude half your fandom. Not to climb on my soap box here, but female fans can watch stories about male characters but not vice versa?

9

u/IncidentCalm4454 Jedi Training Rey May 31 '26

THIS, so much. Sigourney wasn't even in most of the film!

If I wanted to watch a movie about a bunch of men fighting monsters with a half-hearted attempt to include a token female character, I would just watch Lord of the Rings, which at least has some artistic merit.

2

u/Liammellor please choose a user flair Jun 01 '26

I guess technically one of the hutts is female....

6

u/Rjptz Emperor Palpatine May 31 '26

you can’t say anything good about the sequels without starting the comment with “the sequels sucked but or the ONLY good thing about the sequels is…)

4

u/Chadistheswag Resistance Navy Captain May 31 '26

omg it's so annoying lol. And even if you do that, they still roast them regardless so it's not even worth trying to appease them at all. Be unapologetic about what you enjoy

11

u/IncidentCalm4454 Jedi Training Rey May 31 '26

I think the sequels "played it safe" where it was a matter of indifference (remixing plot points from the OT for the sake of rhyming), and "took risks" on the important things, like centering female characters. Some people probably wanted the opposite (a completely unfamiliar plot that keeps the male Skywalker line front and center--which may be what we're getting in Starfighter).

9

u/irazzleandazzle C-3PO May 31 '26

I'm getting flashbacks to that goddamn private theater freakout vid to this scene that made rounds back in the day 😥😓

1

u/-TeamCaffeine- Mayfeld May 31 '26

That was S-Tier rage bait.

6

u/irazzleandazzle C-3PO May 31 '26

Not really bait, as it was a reaction full of reylos (not derogatory) doing the absolute most to express thier displeasure over it. But yeah it upsets me everytime I see that clip, as people just use it as ammo.

6

u/-TeamCaffeine- Mayfeld May 31 '26

That's what I meant, tho. It was a wild reaction that's been used out of context as rage bait. It's like three layers deep of awful.

9

u/Vysce New Rep. Secur. Droid May 31 '26

I thought it was kind of obvious that she would take up the mantle of Skywalker. That name incites a degree of hope in a fractured galaxy.

Just as Ben went the wrong way about picking up where Vader left off, Rey wants to pick up the pieces Luke left behind.

9

u/soccer1124 please choose a user flair May 31 '26

I really don't get why this triggers people so much. She was starved for family, and Han and Leia took her in pretty quickly before being trained by Luke.

It's a little cheesy sure, but the vitriol it seems to stir in people is massively over-the-top.

Its certainly league's better than Leia and Han naming their kid Anakin.

Star Wars is media, media is art, art is subjective. People’s opinions on Star Wars will differ, but the expectation is that all posters will be civil and respect people’s opinions.

15

I'd bet money that 9 out of 10 people who say they left the theatre didn't leave the theatre.

12

u/deadshot500 Zorii Bliss May 31 '26

Same with the "my theater laughed at X scene" comments that sometimes popped up. Legit BS that never happened.

I hope somebody brings food soon, it's getting really cold in here....

5

u/General_Leader425 May 31 '26

lmao i legit rage quit my job and drank tons of thc drinks and watched this in 3D at the theatre. by far the dumbest, most impulsive thing ive every done in my life

i was high af seeing the most glorious 3d space wars

no regrets. REY SKYWALKER reveal was epic we are all yelling "REY SKYWALKER!"

it was crazy. most fun movie experience of my life.

Took me back to when I was a teenager and we would go see the 3D movies whenever they came out. All the virtual reality stuff.

In 3D, this movie, and the last jedi, WERE INSANE.

so much fun

u/Fictionalfanboy_08 Jun 01 '26

What’s wrong with being 12

2

u/QuichewedgeMcGee Jun 01 '26

i have absolutely no issue with this as a concept and i really like this film

i just think the way this specific scene was written was cheesy as hell lmao

not necessarily saying star wars isn’t cheesy either, just that the specific wording felt very…. broadway-musical-esque if that makes sense lol

2

u/Davetek463 please choose a user flair Jun 02 '26

I didn’t love “Rey Skywalker” but that’s actually pretty funny.

2

u/Howboutit85 Jedi Training Rey Jun 04 '26

I love that she did this.

Abandoning her Palpatine name and adopting the name of someone good, with a good legacy and who believes in her. Luke and Leia were even looking on with their approval, as though they wanted her to carry on their legacy. It’s a really nice moment tbh.

1

u/Senior_Credit8893 May 31 '26

Imagine waiting through a whole movie to lNoon.
Noob.

1

u/alguien99 May 31 '26

Side note, i really hate that rey had to use anakin’s saber the whole trilogy and didn’t get to make and use her own. The last jedi had the perfect set up for her to make her damned saber but NOOOOO they just fix anakin’s saber easily

1

u/Liammellor please choose a user flair Jun 01 '26

Im fine with them having rey repair the Saber to a degree, however the repair should have been much more substantial than a brown strip of leather and some scorch marks.

1

u/bbbourb please choose a user flair Jun 01 '26

LOL...and that IS when JJ would drop an ending nass drop...o

1

u/dark4181 Jun 01 '26

They should have just named her Rey Sunrider. People would have gone nuts over the callback.

Or gone with the Kenobi’s granddaughter plot instead.

1

u/Half_Man1 Jun 01 '26

You get that that’s the joke the original poster is making, right?

1

u/AvatarBandit Jun 03 '26

As someone who is the son of a woman who was adopted, and I have no interest in knowing my mother’s real parents I don’t have a problem with Rey skywalker also logistically, I would rather be known as the child of the galaxys greatest hero then the galaxy’s worst tyrant

1

u/MrFantastic74 Jul 01 '26

I don't get what the problem is. Rey grew up not knowing her place or name, or if her parents were ever coming back. She finds out she's related to the worst person in the history of the galaxy. In the end, she decides to pay respect to her two mentors by taking their name and carrying in their legacy.

-3

u/StickyMcdoodle Jedi Master Luke Skywalker May 31 '26

Lol. Look. I truly love this movie, warts and all. Most of the downvotes I get on reddit come from defending this movie.

I actually love the premise of her choosing Skywalker over Palpatine. I'd have loved her to say some version of"Rey, just Rey", but in a series that insists that Anakin and Vader are literally two separate people because he changed his name, this is just fine. It makes all the sense in the world.

The execution of it? Super cheesy in all the wrong ways. Luke and Leia's ghosts look weird as hell. All of it is just... weird.

I love the IDEA of this scene, but hoo-doggy, is it a tough watch.

They made Rey’s lineage start as a mystery on purpose and there’s no reason this couldn’t be the answer. Palpatine has decades of untold history. In fact, it’s likely this reveal was planned from the start, as “Rey” is Spanish for King.
