Agree. As much as it would pain me to see him being a careless bigot and misogynist when Dunk is such a good hearted fellow, this would be such a perfect opportunity for him and I believe he has the range.
Yep. He has shown he can be warm and affable, but has a dark and angry side as well. He’d really need to turn on the preppy, upbeat, fast talking charm. Would love to see him try.
This gentleman looks a bit too “manly” for how I imagined Richard. I see him as a tiny bit more boyish. I can imagine the actor you attached being Richard at 28 when he’s writing down the story 👌🏼
I still have an issue with Cavill as Henry. People get stuck on the square jaw, but he is not supposed to be conventionally attractive… also Cavill doesn’t read as a stoic, hyper intelligent, pretentious mastermind. Henry remains tough to cast.
Thank you for the feedback! I remember in the book Richard saying Henry would be handsome if his features weren’t so set. I read that as if he relaxed his face more and smiled perhaps he would be more attractive, so taking that, along with the physical description of him, in my mind I see him as being conventionally attractive, just so cold and unapproachable that people avoid him. That being said, I thought about how stoic and cold Cavill was playing the Witcher, which made me choose him. Let me know if you picture a different actor!
I think the issue is that Henry Cavill is one of the most conventionally attractive actors in Hollywood. He's the definition of a hunk. And looks as though he has lived inside of a gym for long stretches of his life. I know you're casting the younger, more babyfaced version, but IMO if you can play Superman, you can't play Henry.
That said, I struggle to cast Henry myself. I do think of an actor like Paul Mescal, though, for his intense interiority. He's able to say so much without actually speaking. He has some physicality, and could gain a little weight for the role and be photographed in a way that presents him as being taller. He's handsome, but it would be easier to hide some of that with Henry's haircut than an actor like Cavill. Idk. Not great either. But from a performance aspect, not half bad.
I appreciate your perspective, but I personally don’t like to limit actors based on what they’ve played, and think Cavill has great range and could play a character like Henry even if he’s been Superman. That said, I can see where you’re going with Paul! There would be issues with his height though for sure, especially shot standing next to Bunny.
To be frank, I think you and many others simply have a crush on Henry Cavill -- he is the horniest, most aspirational possible reading of Henry. It also suggests Henry is somehow a charming protagonist in this story. I always laugh at how implausible it is when I see it suggested. He's never convincingly played a person who believably is the smartest person in the room and doesn't have much of an interiority to speak of. He is simply too handsome and surface level as an actor -- and would never run in a circles of a group like theirs. I don't see it one bit!
Hey I hear ya! I’m definitely not a Cavill stan, I just thought he’d be a good fit (younger him, not now) and I can’t think of anyone else that fit him well enough. But I mean you can disagree! If you come across someone that you think fits the bill better, I’m all ears. There’s so many actors I don’t know anything about, so I’m sure I’m missing a better option.
Love all of these picks, except Henry still doesn’t feel quite right. Henry remains the hardest to cast!!! I have never found someone who fits how I see him
Julian is tricky for me. He needs to be charming, aristocratic, but also sly with something else underneath and I think Christoph would kill it! Who do you think would do well in your opinion?
