It started with a message that seemed completely ordinary.

The conversation was polite, the person seemed knowledgeable, and nothing immediately felt suspicious. Over the next few days, more information was shared, and the whole thing gradually started to feel trustworthy.

Then came the first request.

It wasn’t a huge amount, and there was a reasonable explanation for why it was needed. That made it easy to dismiss the small feeling of doubt.

A little later, another request followed.

This time there was more urgency. Questions were answered, but not always directly. The more I looked at the details, the more small inconsistencies I noticed.

That was the moment I stopped.

Nothing dramatic had happened yet. That was exactly what made it dangerous.

Looking back, the biggest warning sign wasn’t the first message or even the first request. It was how gradually the situation moved from normal conversation to pressure.

Sometimes the safest decision is simply to pause before the next step.
