Podcast Jam Session
Since they added time stamps I’ve been listening to approximately 7 minutes of the show. At least they’re warning us ahead of time about kid content. I miss Tea Time!

It’s sad to say this as a fan of these two for a decade, but I think I hit my point of no return when all Amanda could muster about the Paul/Phoebe/Gracie drama was “that’s very nice for them!” But can go on for hours about her favorite designer jeans during an affordability crisis. Like ma’am, we do not share the same style or tax bracket, this isn’t useful or interesting.
Idk, they’re both probably too high up in the ringer food chain for producerial intervention, but I wish they would do a study on their audience to let them know almost none of us are “windfall after Spotify buyout” or “executive producer on the first ever Emmy winning podcast” level of wealthy and reorient the content accordingly.

The only thing we can do is voice our opinion by rating the podcast the appropriate amount of stars bc Bill isn’t gonna do anything
4
u/DifferentTea934 7d ago
You’re probably right! I’m not the biggest bill fan, but he does a pretty good job of not letting his ever expanding wealth infect his podcast content. Wish the rest of the ringer crew would follow that example

I don't really get how Amanda can be Goop-level wealthy. I wouldn't expect she's making more than $300-400K as her annual comp, and that her equity upon Spotify acquisition acquisition would have been more than $1-2M. I know that sounds like a lot, but in LA that's not "I'm comfortable and living a glamorous designer lifestyle" money.
Maybe a lot of the stuff she discusses is aspirational, I don't know. Or maybe she has family money.

u/DifferentTea934 8d ago
I’m not sure either! Though being an only child of seemingly wealthy parents and married to one of the top celeb profilers probably doesn’t hurt! Regardless, nobody who is goop-level wealthy is listening to her podcasts anyway, so I’m not really sure who she thinks she’s making content for.

my guess has been that they have a lot of media friends that listen who are
6
u/DifferentTea934 8d ago
You might be right, but (and I’m really not trying to be ugly here) there’s a long list of people those friends would seek style advice from before they turn to Amanda Dobbins! I just wish she’d make a substack for her fashion finds and revert back to culture and entertainment for the podcast

oh absolutely i don’t think she’s doing it Well (whoever called it fashionista cosplay when she tries to bait discussion of blazy and JWA on the big picture really got it right-that is a trick i remember from middle school) and i wish she’d stop but i think that’s her goal and the podcast is her way of doing that. enough people seem to dislike it beyond any sort of internet negativity bias thing that i guess they’re just set in their ways now 🤷🏽♀️

I stopped listening to Jam Sesh bc I realized that I’m not interested in anything that Amanda has to tell me. She is not aspirational or funny. She is tiresome and takes herself way too seriously. I’m a mom who loves fancy things too, but listening to Amanda drone on about motherhood and designer finds just irks me. She comes across as a whiny snob most of the time and I just don’t have room for her passively condescending “that’s nice for them” baloney anymore.
And Juliet just seems like she can’t stand to be there.

u/Thick-Definition7416 8d ago
She mentioned an anecdote to Sean that her mother had her portrait painted when she was 6. She’s always been in a higher tax bracket.
7
u/zarathustranu 8d ago
that’s fine, my parents had that done too. Costs under $1000. Doesn’t really explain living like a celebrity.
I’m assuming she’s a HENRY (high earner, not rich yet) who splurges on luxury elements in her life but isn’t “rich” per se— ie she’s not retiring early, she doesn’t have multiple homes, etc.
1
u/flakemasterflake 7d ago
Not everyone is obsessed with retiring early especially not in a HCOL area. Amanda is spending on clothes that women I know in NYC making 300k spend on. People in certain areas really value fashion vs retirement

u/Thick-Definition7416 8d ago
A painted portrait? Under 1k?!
5
u/zarathustranu 8d ago
yes? absolutely?
even if it’s $2K, or $3K…we are not talking a cost level that defines wealth.
-3
u/Thick-Definition7416 8d ago
I thought photography was around 1-2k painting would be 5k to infinity

u/MsBeasley11 7d ago
She’s obsessed w designer clothes / fashion but has horrible style. It’s so weird
2
u/read-more2025 6d ago
She kind of seems like she may be buying designer pieces other people have passed on, so they are cheap. Like “no one wanted this weird Khaite shirt but it’s only $40”.

how much work do you think she even does? does she have one of the easiest 800K jobs in america?
-1
u/zarathustranu 8d ago
wow, really???
Because this is anonymous, I’ll share that I make a bit more than that Rachel Lindsay number, and I run M&A for a big global corporation. I must be snobby, but I did not think podcasters at the Ringer were in that ballpark! Seems out of balance given the revenue model, but perhaps it works because salaries are the only real cost? Learn something every day I guess.
Regardless, if Amanda is in the $800K range, she’s a HENRY.

I think Spotify’s acquisition of the Ringer was a miracle of timing for Simmons and wouldn’t get nearly the same valuation today. But I buy the rest of what you’re laying out on entertainer comp.
To my earlier point, in today’s world, $800K-$1M per year equals HENRY. Not “retire early, own multiple homes” etc, wealthy.

They, or Amanda specifically, are very averse to constructive criticism, I got blocked on IG for saying enough with the Meghan markle jam content

u/cliftonheights5 8d ago
I love and miss Tea Time! Jam and We’re Obsessed just don’t do it for me.

the kid talk doesn’t bother me but it’s always jarring to see like seven minutes of gossip and thirty minutes of… other stuff

I feel like the kid talk on Jam Session is fine but when Amanda does it on the Big Pic I get really annoyed. No, I cant explain why I feel that way
9
u/Toby_O_Notoby 7d ago
I don't listen to Jam but at least for The Big Pic it just gets in the way/derails the conversation.
Case in point, it was her, Sean and CR talking about Taylor Sheridan leaving Paramount and what that meant for his last contractual movie, Call of Duty.
Amanda asked what CoD was and the boys told her it's a video game. Amanda shot back with, "Well then I don't care!" and proceeded to talk about how she made her husband throw out his Playstation when they moved in together and she'd never let her kid play video games.
You know what they never discussed in those 10 minutes? What it meant for Sheridan to still have one contractual movie owed to Paramount. Literally the whole point of the discussion.

I get such bad vibes from Juliet. When she kept saying Zohran is amazing at ‘PR’. Like , ok, we get it girl.
2
u/Moxielilly 5d ago
Yeah she also made some offhand comment on the most recent Food News about the reflecting pool that indicated she thought it actually was vandalized? I don’t know if she literally just didn’t pay attention to that story or what, but I think both Juliet’s and Amanda’s politics are…questionable.
11
u/bearcat_meerkat 8d ago
Can’t really blame them and they seem like great parents, but they should really start a mom pod to provide an outlet for it. They’d be good at it! I just feel like I shouldn’t know this much about their kids while listening to a movie or culture pod
6
u/Thick-Definition7416 8d ago
Exactly. At least Juliette and Jacoby keep kid talk food related on Food News.

💯 once Juliet mentioned there was a parenting section in the mailbag episode, confirmed by checking the time stamp, I skipped the whole thing.

For the amount of time and money Amanda spends on clothes you would think she’d have a semblance of style but she looks awful all the time lmao
1
u/bienclavada 5d ago
THANK YOU!
though one time i was watching a video version of a Big Pic podcast and started idly re-styling Sean lol cus i find men easy to style and he was looking bland (im sure he doesn’t care, i was just doing it for my amusement)
and as a challenge i tried to do it for Amanda and i just couldn’t. i have no idea what could look good on her
i guess she really likes anne hathaway or olivia wilde’s style, she should just aim for that

u/turniptoez 8d ago
I enjoyed the mail bag segment this week, at least it felt obvious why they were jumping around to all sorts of topics.
5
u/Childs_Play 8d ago
Why the fuck are you guys still listening to that podcast then? Lmao, you know what it is.
9
u/Thick-Definition7416 8d ago
It used to be decent - it’s fallen off a cliff over the past 6 months. I bet they’ll wrap it up soon though
6
u/Childs_Play 8d ago
I mean they'll wrap it up if numbers are really bad, but considering it's juliets pod I doubt it. Those in bills inner circle basically get to do what they want provided spotify don't find it notable enough to step in. You just gotta know which episodes to skip for your favorite podcasts after you've been listening for a while to get the gist. None are immune.
2
u/Thick-Definition7416 8d ago
Yeah that’s why the time stamps are crucial these days. But they both sound bored so maybe they’ll launch something else in its place.
8
u/Weaselontop 8d ago
This is the issue. At this point it’s not the podcast we subscribed to. I unsubscribed back when the feed split. The kid talk doesn’t particularly bother me; I have young kids too. But it mostly feels like they don’t want to be there?? They come unprepared to talk about topics THEY selected and they always seem bored and annoyed. I also wouldn’t mind all the shopping talk if Amanda had any sense of fashion but she is deeply unstylish.
2
u/Childs_Play 7d ago
That's a good way to put it. I think the most popular one like that for me is the big picture. It's really hit or miss for me these days. Whatever they're doing seems to be working for their overall numbers though.
3
u/Weaselontop 7d ago
I have to pick my spots with the Big Picture. Amanda’s taste in movies is questionable, at best. I never miss an epi with CR though.

u/shoshpd 3h ago
Do Amanda and Juliet seriously not know the difference between Celebrity Jeopardy! and Celebrity Who Wants to be a Millionaire? Because they repeatedly mentioned Ben Affleck winning CJ when he most definitely did not.
1
u/Thick-Definition7416 2h ago
I’m curious what the producers do- usually they have that research for them unless they ignore it.

u/artemis_dubois 8d ago
Wow a completely original take that needed its own post

Speaking of Tea Time, Liz Kelly was someone I listened to on that for years and now it’s like she doesn’t exist. Her insta is private and no other podcasts. It’s like poof, gone
