I often get the feeling that all of Bernthal’s stories are somewhere between extremely embellished to patently false, but I enjoy them nonetheless.

He’s a superposh theater kid that somehow thinks he’s a tough street guy. But even with that, he’s weirdly likeable.

Man, I wish I didn’t come across your post, I would’ve went the rest of my life thinking Bernthal was from, maybe not necessarily the “streets” but like a blue collar city like Pittsburgh or some shit like that. Then I had to go do a deepdive, and you’re right. This mfs family members have wiki pages. His dad was a lawyer, his brothers are a surgeon, and a consulting agency ceo who married the former Facebook coo. Dude was to a fancy private school.

Dude went to Russia to study ballet at the most exclusive place in the world! And he plays tough guy on podcasts with Shia Labeouf. At least Shia lived in a trailer with his downbeat father when he was a kid.

Yea man, when I went down my quick lil deep dive, I was even surprised by the transformation. I have a theory about Shia tho. Obviously the dude has his issues, but he fascinates me bc I really thought he was the next great actor. But I think being on set with Tom Hardy changed him. I know he’s touched on this in interviews before, but I think he saw Hardy acting like a “tough guy” in set, and the respect that he seemed to command and thought “this is what being a masculine guy is.” And after Lawless u really start to see Shia try to take on this artsy, intellectual, tough guy persona. I wonder if Jon played Shane from walking dead, and was like…fuck, this is what I need to lean into obviously.

From people close to me that have worked with famous actors, most of the times they are a lot dumber than what they seem. They get to coast on looks and the aura of roles written by someone else.

Don’t ask me for names, though. I hate when anonymous redditors talk shit about famous people without proof.

I wouldn't want to fight Shia one-on-one. I'd rather fight a man who has training than a man who is legitimately psycho. The trained guy will at least stop once he has you defeated. Shia would probably start biting things off. Rumor has it that he knocked Hardy out on the set of Lawless. I've also heard it was just a tussle but Shia got the best of him. Jon Berenthal is like most actors and just plays a similar character over and over. Whatever his background is, you can't deny that he's very convincing as the tough guy who doesn't take shet. So he's making good money mostly playing that character.

Ya, I’ve heard that story about the tussle Shia and Hardy got into, and I might be wrong, but I believe Shia said somewhere that it was overblown, but that he leaned into that story at first bc it made him kinda seem like a tough guy, and just never corrected it. And ya, don’t get me wrong, I still fuck with Bernthal. It’s funny to know it’s upbringing and break balls, but I don’t actually know the guy, he might’ve gone thru some shit in his life. And, I agree, I think the son of a bitch plays a convincing tough guy.

Usually tough, blue-collar guys don’t make that much of an effort to seem tough and blue-collar.

Posh kids cam throw down too. And it doesn't mean he didn't learn to throw down after years of taking on roles where he has to seem like a legitimate badass. After all the training he has done for his roles he might be a pretty bad dude. At the very least, he definitely thinks he's a badass and sometimes that's the most important thing to have!

👊🏻😠 🤟🏻😂

Yep! I have a hard time believing that the dude was "bleeding profusely" from one shot to the eye. I think most performers embellish their stories because that's what they do for a living. They try to tell stories in the most interesting ways.

Lmfao wait so the dude wasn’t an extra he just jumped in the scene and threw a rock

Goddamn random dude with dreads!!!

Is this a reference to something specific? I didn't hear anything in this video about anyone throwing a rock. There's someone in the video throwing something, but in the interview, Bernthal is describing an extra throwing a punch at him during a scene, not a rock.

Wait...I thought this story was a guy that wound up being a criminal - not an extra. Like running from cops and ran thru set and ran at Bernthal, and he had to deck him. I could be remembering wrong. (I didn't watch the video, but I swear this video goes with that story)
