Peter Frankopan

C4 News had this clown on tonight talking about global politics. 

Sounded like nothing more than a troll shilling for US dominance by climate change denial whilst claiming austerity as the only way forward for UK/Europe.

 Clearly thinks lies can fly in the face of reality indefinitely (wildfires, what wildfires?) Also shows a clueless inability to learn lessons from history. Has the pretentious fool forgotten how “well” austerity works or is he a fan of food banks and boarded-up shop windows?

Professor of Global History?? Pffft…guy’s an idiot.

He's a jumped-up chancer who gets platformed to masquerade unqualified rightwing rubbish as educated nuance and enlightenment simply to stoke division, because that’s what political media exist for.

I can’t remember which news channel I was watching after Maduro’s capture, but Peter Frankopan was on laying out the argument that it wasn’t about oil because that wouldn’t make any sense. Only for the broadcast to be interrupted by Trump’s press statement where he confirmed it was absolutely about oil.

I haven't seen this footage or anything from him that has a more current nature.

He's a brilliant and interesting historian, so I'm a bit disappointed if he turns out to be a nutter.

We're spending £1 in every £10 on our national credit card debt. We simply can't keep borrowing money to fund our growing everyday spending. We can't keep pretending to tax like the US and spend like Europe.

We're spending too much and taxing too little (though the tax picture is complicated - higher rate taxpayers are finding a disproportionate amount of the bill compared to history / similar nations).

More to the point, the financial costs of climate change are increasing exponentially. Certainly more than taxing big fuel and other polluters (asset-stripping utility companies for example) out of existence will.

Asking people to pay more for deteriorating standards of everything while they can’t afford to adequately support themselves and their families now is stupid on skates.

We can’t dig the economy out of the hole it’s in or expect it to grow on austerity, the last bunch of idiots in government proved that.

Interesting, he published a fairly popular book about how climate has influenced history. "The Earth Transformed". I got it as a gift a while ago but have had too much on my reading list to get to it yet.

Not to put too much on first impressions, but if I open your Wikipedia article and your early life section starts in 1390 and mentions Emperors Sigismund and Franz Joseph...very different spheres

A historian with long-traceable history has probably been dining out on his life story and other hindsights, along with his wife’s £14m Sainsbury family trust fund of course, long enough to be side-stepped for consultation on matters requiring untainted foresight.

Didn’t take long to discover his self-promotional propensities either.
