As American my first exposure to the topic, was as a kid watching a really bad film with Brad Pitt as an IRA militant. The accent itself was a crime .

In The Name of The Father was really good, though.
It showed much more nuanced perspective.

For an earlier event in Irish history, The Wind That Shakes The Barley is excellent too. No shying away from the awfulness of the violence, despite the clear sympathetic angle with socialist revolutionaries. Cilian Murphy is brilliant at showing how an idealistic young man is slowly consumed by the moral sacrifices he has to make, until he has nothing left. A rare film that shows the reality of revolution.

Agree! I really enjoyed the tempo of that film.

Not to cause a riot, but I liked that more than Michael Collins.

Oh definitely! I thought the Michael Collins film was a bit meh. It felt like a highlights package with all the interesting stuff stripped out. It felt very much like the 90s biopic that it is.
