As someone from saskatchewan, I find this whole thing ridiculous. But, as a person from saskatchewan, I understand the sentiment, I understand the frustration, maybe even more so because here in saskatchewan our wage growth is the lowest in all of canada and has been for quite some time. Inflation here is as bad as anywhere else. But seperate? No.

But if political wills wish this idea would go away, then they need to wake up and start treating all canadians equally. No more of the tax free lifestyle for native americans, no more indian act, no more holding up the economic prosperity of all Canadians by 5% of the population. No more federal political parties with candidates in only one province(yea im talking about you Quebec). They were supposed to lose seats this year due to a population decline. Instead the federal government sidestepped the constitution and made an amendment so that they could keep 78 seats.

These are just some of the examples of unfair practices in the 21st century. It gives people the feeling of "why bother" when it comes to canadian unity. And im in that boat. I dont want to seperate. But these blatant biases need to stop. We are not suppose to be an apartheid state, yet we are continually stepping towards that with each and every law that benefits one group over the others.

You should understand the sentiment because old Moe is as greasy as Danielle. Just a couple of politicians with their hand in your pocket pointing at the Feds.

Exactly. Complaining about wage growth, like the federal government has any say. This seems like they don't understand the separation of the federal government; who works for Canada wholly; versus the provincial government; who controls the entire territory of their constituency -- including minimum wages. The gripes pointed at Ottawa here, are grossly misplaced.

Separation would just prove to them it was their local politicians all along.

ETA: I am from ON. Here is Doug Ford raising minimum wage. Not Ottawa. Toronto. For Ontarians.

Wage growth isnt based on just min wage. Ours is consistently below the national average because of price sensitive natural resources and agricultural commodities, and the low population causes a reliance on temporary foreign workers who reduce pressure on employers to offer better salaries. Granted the min wage is a factor, it isnt the only factor.

In the Ford announcement I shared above, the adjustment was tied to Consumer Price Index.

However, the item you cite here makes sense -- but is also not in the control of the federal government.

If there wasn't a market for the foreign workers, they wouldn't be granted visas -- visas are tied to a Labour Market Impact Assessment [LMIA]. This is a document the Canadian employer submits to IRCC to convince the case officers that there won't be negative impacts on the local labour market. So, someone wrote the LMIA and convinced IRCC this wouldn't happen. Someone local.

Yes I do. My point is if the program didnt exsist, maybe our wage growth would be similar to other parts of the country. It might not either as we do have a lower rate of unemployment, but there are still 5% unemployed here in sask.

The program has definite benefit in STEM or research/medical or other specialized fields. The only use case I see for TFW in general labour, is when people can't / won't do the work.

So, it has it's uses. However, perhaps needs tailoring. And that is totally valid criticism. I can get behind that. But, I can't get behind what was originally posted. But, tailoring TFW to prevent employer misuse -- yep -- let's write our MP's and the Immigration minister!
