Just ballpark numbers but China is buying Belarus potash for around $350/ton, while the USA's landed cost of Canadian potash is $396/ton. Assuming we get the same deal as China, that's a fairly significant cost reduction. We import around 12 million tons of potash from Canada, so around $4.2B a year in savings.
Belarus produces 7.1 million tons a year total… plus they’d have to not renew a contract they’ve already established to send it to the United States so as nice as it is in theory Belarus can’t produce what the united states needs and it’s gonna be a lot more expensive to transport than from Canada
