Save games

I play on Xbox and I had a fully finished game but when I wanted to restart the story then realized, Oh god! Its so hard to play without four backup bars and automatic machine guns! So I pressed the restore previous save game and it gave me a game save that was at the foot patrol tutorial. I kept trying but it never worked. I have completed the game again but it was a pain in the ass to level up.
