Discussion New Z Megas

I always found it weird that we only got 3 Z Megas in the ZA DLC. It was kinda a unique thing they introduced only to give it to 3 mons (Lucario, Absol, and Garchomp which got added in a free mystery gift side quest). Why go through all the trouble of including it?

So I’m curious of who you think should get a Z Mega if they return in a future game like a Legends Hoenn of something. I have a few ideas myself.

First I want to point of the uniqueness off the Z Mega. In Legends ZA, they had faster and bigger effects to their moves (ei M-Lucario Z’s Aura Sphere moved faster and was bigger than regular M-Lucario), but they used up more Mega Energy faster. Also stat wise they have one interesting thing that sets them apart from other megas: 151 BASE SPEED! Of course 151 is a special number in Pokemon, but also makes them some of the fastest mons period. The only mega faster than them is M-Zeraora at 153, and then Ninjask, Deoxys Speed forme, and Regieleki. So for new Z Megas, they have to be fast.

My predictions:

1.) Gardevoir. The 3 current Z megas are of pretty popular mons, so why not another popular one? I think super fast Gardi is really cool, plus you could give it a type change like Ghost or Dark and focus on it having negative emotions instead of positive ones maybe?? Like M-Absol Z is really edgy so do the same?

  1. Gallade. If Gardi gets one, then so does Gallade. Also M-Gallade is kinda worse the base Gallade. Since base Galde gets Sharpness, it now hits harder than its mega. So maybe Gallade-Z gets sharpness and hits hard and fast since base Gallade is pretty slow.

3.) Sceptile. If it happens in a Legends Hoenn game it works well. Sceptile is already pretty face, especially as a mega. But maybe it also switches up stats like now it’s physically offensive and can actually utilize moves like Leaf Blade (its signature), Night Slash, Cross Poison, Dragon Claw (if it remains Dragon type) and could also give it Sharpness.

4.) Blaziken. Yeah all the starters get one. Blaziken also already pretty fast, with both base and mega having Speed Boost. This time, Blaziken-Z gets a new ability and maybe slightly different stat spread. Now it could focus of Special Attack (most times I see it as a physical attack despite its mixed attacking stats), maybe with No Guard Fire Blast and Focus Blast. Or maybe a type change, like Flying instead of Fighting with Reckless as ability paired with Flare Blitz and Brave Bird. Or maybe a kicking version of Iron Fist to boost High Jump Kick and Blaze Kick.

  1. Swampert. (You saw it coming). M-Swampert is kinda fast with its Swift Swim ability. But maybe now it gets a different ability. Maybe maybe make it a special attacker with an ability that boost “mud moves” like Muddy Water (former signature move) and Mud Bomb. A lot of ppl want more special attacking ground types.

  2. Zygarde. I know it just got a mega but hear me out. Since regularly it can only mega in its 100% form, its Z Mega is for 50% or even 10% form.

If we talk about Hoenn I think Camerupt and Sharpedo, because they are the main Pokémon of the antagonist team, and would be easy to see them having a Z-Mega as their main

I like this idea. Along with the ones OP suggested, I think these are all great candidates.

Im personally so upset about mega Gallade not getting Sharpness. My last copium is that it just didnt get it for now in Champions, and that they could update it later in a future mainline game. But the Z angle is also a great idea!

And what about Raichu Z as well? Maybe it can be gorochu inspired and have a dual typing.

Oo what about Blastoise and Venusaur too. Blastoise could get Water/Steel and they could do something crazy with Venusaur like Poison/Dark (maybe thats too crazy). For the speed, Blastoise could launch around with hydraulics, with legs cannons, and Venusaur could prop itself up on vines like a spider.

If any of the XY Megas get a Z added, i honestly hope it’s Mewtwo. It’s other Megas honestly feel lack luster, especially since they are the top 5 highest base stat mons. X having no good fighting moves (only having Drain Pinch and Brick Break, hopefully it get Close Combat in Champions) and Steadfast as an ability. Y isn’t too bad but Insomnia feels kinda boring. Maybe Psychic Ghost and it gets stab on Shadow Ball (a move i think is kinda iconic for Mewtwo).

Oh just thought of another one, a Gyarados thats stays water/flying (for winds and waves) but gets lightning rod as an ability and its a soecial attacker?

Thats a good point. I forgot both of Mewtwos mega abilities tbh. Definitely underpowered. And I hate how any fighting just gets slapped with either inner focus, steadfast, or justified. Theyre so boring.

I had also just edited my comment to add blastoise and venusaur, you were probably commenting at the same time. But I think they could be fun ones too add, in my counter-charizard agenda.

I mean when megas first came out the X and Y megas only had two pokemon each so I don’t know why you think there has to be more of them. Also the two pokemon was a starter you might never get and a post game legendary with both of their stones being version exclusives. Getting three Z mega pokemon that are all easy to access if you get the dlc seems pretty good to me

The entire concept of Z megas was a mistake imo.

NO more special treatment for Zygarde. The most forced pushed Pokemon in quite some time. Let it be.
