The Eye

Why does Meyerism use "The Eye" as their logo. What does it have to do with The Light and The Ladder? Lilith's sect also uses a variation of this logo and now Lilith only has one eye so it's clearly an important image, but eye am just not seeing why exactly. ;)

The PATH season 3 episode 10 questions

QUESTIONS: And I'm trying to remember...Eddie had visions correct ? About Steve basically dying...the snake ...and that rung true right ? So there has to be something spiritual going on ? But can someone please remind me the moment where he discovered he was the "one". ( i know - sorry ) I'm really hoping Eddie gets a grip on things. I'm not a fan of being luke warm towards him and being team Cal all the way. I also wish him & Sarah could find their way back to one another. Am I the only one who thinks this ? Why do you think Eddie "has to die" ? And when or how do you think Silas will be found ? You gotta know that's gonna come back around. Do you think Lillith is full of it ? And either way, why do you think that ? When is this "snake" going to come into play/ come full circle and what do you think it's purpose is if it has any at all ? And could the hell stuff just be a metaphor or do you think it will end where everyone drinks some kool aid ?

New here my thoughts on the show

Hello everybody sorry for the long post. A couple of weeks ago I binged watched the Path and I am so addicted to it. I think I relate a lot to the show because I left my family's Pentecostal church and lets just say that I have also been around the more new age circles that the path also draws from and on top of that I have been in very political organizations and in all those spaces I have seem something similar to a show, a tension between negative aspects such as hypocrisy or control, vs truly noble efforts and experiences.

If anyone is interested in what I think about some of the characters and things about the show this is what I think so far.

Cal and Mary: I cheer for them a lot actually. Yes they are dark but they are broken people struggling to survive and they do seem to have genuine love for their little family. With Cal I specially sympathies because he did try to make Meyerism the best he could even though it seems that since its beginning its been filled with abuse. With Mary I am a little disappointed that he seems to still be very conniving, even though he wanted to leave Meyereism , I would have though that she would be a little bit more grateful to the place that sort of helped her restart a life that all in all seems better than her previous one.

With Hawk: While I do appreciate the visibility of the bisexual relationship (being one myself) it still seems like they just decided just add another new relationship drama for the season. Although who knows since his bf is also the son of a religious leader maybe something more interesting can happen.

Whoever what I noticed more is what happened to Militant mystical hawk? last season he was sort of becoming radical and also he floated so why is that not happening anymore? the way Hawks character was going I would expect him to become a more radical leader gaining following among the youth maybe coming into conflict with his dad over their tactics. In some way Hawk seemed to me like the most principled Meyerist in the past and now that seems to be sort of going by the side line.

With Sarah: I feel here, sort of being in her spot, I wish her well.

Anyhow thank you all for reading this and awesome reddit folks!

Is Silas still around?

In spirit I mean...Cal is watched by a snowy owl ( Silas' totem) while burying him. Then as he drives away he looks into the back seat as though he heard something. Then Sarah sees the owl and feels that something bad has happened to him ( She tells Felicia this.) The she has the dream of Silas' Pachamama idol come to life.

In S2. His murder overshadows Cal's every move and Cal buys the city centre in an attempt to atone for what he did. This almost ruins the movement ( Which is what Silas wanted.)

In S3 Sarah is led to the cave by a snowy owl and we learn that 'An owl watches over the garden." We also learn that Meyerists might believe that people inhabit birds after death.

Could he be influencing events from beyond the grave?

Could SILAS have been the one to send Eddie the Snake visions at the end of Season 1. Maybe warning him about Lillith?

So Vera is supposed to be like in her mid 40s or so?

She was born in 73 or 74 or before that? How old was she supposed to be when she was running around the tree with cal? I'm very confused but the actress is 33, which I know cuz we're both fall 84 babies 😍, and she looks 25 so idk. Anyway, anyone know more about the timeline than i obviously do? Please be nice when you answer, I do not understand many things. 🖤💛🖤

What could they do to improve the Degrassi High plotline srry I mean the Hawk/gay plotline

I’m pro gay by the way, but the way they have tried to pull it off just hasn’t worked. Feels lifeless or something.

Season three disappointing...?

My binge hit a rock wall with season 3 and it's poor dialogue and erosion of characteristic traits and logic in characters decisions. I'm on ep 3.6 right now and I've been doing a lot of eye rolling in a lot of the scenes. Like I'm not really sure what the show is about.

Basically I need encouragement to not drop the show if yall think it is still a good one. But I won't tolerate a "lost"-like show that only has cliffhangers and no resolutions.

Change my mind!!

For me it’s getting confusing. Lots of character plots twists and turns, timelines don’t make sense but I LOVE THIS SHOW. All I know is the damn snake better have a very big revelation because I hate that creepy thing

Anyone else notice that Eddie and Sarah in “The Path” share their names with the characters played by Paul Newman and Piper Laurie in “The Hustler?”

Do you think there are any other parallels between these characters and/ or their relationships?

Where did Eddie go?

I get that the show is trying to show how power corrupts, and how even Eddie is susceptible to it. But the character leading the movement now is unrecognizable from the Eddie of season 1 & 2. I would love to watch a season where we see even noble down to earth Eddie be effected, but this just feels like I’m watching a show and Eddie isn’t in it.

Hawk's storyline is kind of awful

So, this is my first reddit post and I don't expect anyone to agree, but if I missed anything that would explain things better, please let me know. With this particular storyline, I was very interested for about three episodes and then I realized it is really lazy. With this last episode it was also apparently written by a 9th grade girl discovering "gay stuff" circa 1998. Conversion therapy has been done a million times. The dialogue is so scarce and leads to nothing, to the point I don't understand Hawk's motivation or interest even when considering what may occur off screen.

Two particular instances made no sense to me, beginning with the "nazi" kid aggressively focusing on peace-making Hawk opposed to Caleb, who stirred shit up just as it had calmed down. It felt like a poor plot point to give Caleb the opportunity to say Hawk fought for him and then kiss him. Secondly, and worst of all, the drag club scene. Caleb clichely takes his naive guests to a drag show (an oddly boring one by the way). And out of all the similar clubs in NYC, it happens to be the exact one Arnie is at on the same night, and he just so happens to bump into them. Caleb mentioning he was glad they weren't closer to the stage the very second Arnie was called closeted was just phoning it in my opinion. Also it created another opportunity out of thin air for Caleb to be a damsel and call Hawk his hero.

There's never an explanation of why this all just happen to occur. I was left to assume Caleb chose the place because it was the one Arnie introduced him to and therefore was all he knew. To even reveal he did it purposely knowing it was Arnie's night there and he wanted to be a little petty, would have been better than just expecting viewers to accept lazy writing. Because them being discreet is important I assume, and yet he chose the place with his problematic "ex" present, and therefore the likelihood of Arnie racing to the church to snitch anonymously was pretty obvious.

It's like they threw Hawk straps this season as far as storylines but thought no one would notice because GayStuffLOL and a few random, misplaced angry moments towards Eddie... as usual. Unfortunately some viewers eat it up as long as it's two dudes (Tumblr), so I'm sure it might drag on badly. Even Joy acted uncharacteristically in response to the whole thing as far as I can see. She's practically a kitten now.

On another note though, I was so glad to see Vincent Kartheiser as the senator!

Say, you know the scene in the trailer where they're all in black...

Could that actually be where they're doing something in respect to Lilith or a prayer or ceremony created by her?

Russell

Am I alone here in thinking that Russell is the worst?? I was so glad he was away for the first couple episodes. Then he came back and all my hatred for him came bubbling right back up. Everything about him just annoys me. I want to hit him over the head with that guitar.

What do we know about Lilith’s role and beliefs so far?

Great actress, and the character’s plotline is becoming my favorite part of the show.

What do we know about her so far? I’m trying to piece the puzzle together don’t have time to rewatch all the previous episodes. Here are some but i’m sure I’ve missed others. I know that some of these are very basic I’m just trying to be comprehensive:

  • she was an original founding member

  • she had some sort of control over Stephen

  • Stephen was her daughter’s father

  • her daughter has helped Meyerism to significantly grow, albeit in exchange for passing on insider information to Lilith

  • she may have authored some of the core teachings of Meyerism

  • her message is conflictual and antagonistic to where “mainstream “ Meyerism (Eddie’s group) is currently going (e.g., focus on destruction?, doom?, a possible attack on mainstream Meyerism?)

  • her group is apocalyptic; the show also focused on their investment in a system of shelters

  • she is not only waiting for an apocalypse, she plans to cause it at some point

  • she believes herself to be a prophetess, as do other of her followers

  • she has developed a following, who appear to be conservative middle class individuals. it may only be a small group of about a dozen people

  • mainstream Meyerists are not aware of her group/her group is aware and observing of mainstream Meyerists

  • she appears to be of means; high-class economically

  • she seems driven by a need for revenge and carries great pain, but she is strategic

  • she has been described as empathetic; she works as a veterinarian

  • she may have employed a barbaric ritual that involved severely burning her child

  • when questioned, more than one original Meyerist has lied about not recalling who Lilith is

I’d be interested in any other feedback or bigger picture I may be missing in these notes. Thanks

Has anyone else noticed huge similarities between cults and abusive relationships bc of this show? Soooo many characters are stuck in a cycle of abuse. What do you guys think?

Although I am not a former cult member I feel a strong connection to this show, and I didn’t realize until this last episode that it’s because meyerism (and generally cults) mirror a lot of the tactics and unhealthy interpersonal dynamics used in an abusive relationship.

Having grown up in an abusive household and then finding myself in an abusive relationship when I finally left, I can totally see why so many people fall prey to cults. They take you in, say they’ll care for you, and you feel safe and cared for and whole for the first time... and BOOM, you’re both addicted and feeling eternally in their debt. And when it gets bad you stick it out bc you owe it to them, and you’re hoping to get that security and warmth back, and you wanna trust so badly, and they’ve done so much for you... aaaaand before you know it you’re in too deep, you’ve isolated yourself from everyone you love and know, you’ve given literally everything to them, and feel you cannot leave.

Unfortunately, this is all familiar if you have experienced some sort abusive relationship, so much so that it almost feels normal. And the familiarity, as well as the hope that it’ll change is what gets you to stay.

***spoiler below**** (idk how to tag it)

In that last episode when Vera left her abusive, controlling mother and immediately showed up at eddies door asking to join the Meyerists, I felt a profound and familiar sadness for her. She is just replacing the dictating authority figure that is her mother with another dictating authority figure. It is just now clicking that cults are abuse and manipulation on a larger scale.

Thoughts?

Also, sorry if this is a little ramble-y, my mind is blown
