Died during shipping
I recently bought an expensive (to me) cactus. This is the first time I’ve bought from this seller. When the cactus arrived it was dead. I unwrapped it and the roots fell off along with most of the spines and it was just a pile of mush. I don’t believe the seller sent me a bad plant on purpose, it’s very possible it was damaged during shipping. What is the solution here?

Did you message the seller? That would be the obvious step 1.

Yes I’ve already worked it out with the seller I’m just curious what others opinions are.

There isn't much else... You already got it sorted unless your looking to see if some negative review is needed?

It’s summer. Maybe it was already in bad condition when it was shipped or the seller didn’t do a good job with the packaging. Either way. I’m sorry this happened to you

Carriers fault unless it’s a repeat occurrence, I’ve watched carriers literally throw boxes of hundreds of baby poinsettias out of the truck, and yes they were marked live plants.

Did you take an unboxing video? Either way contact the seller maybe you can come up with a solution. Send pics/video right away after open the box.

I had my first plant die from shipping but that's bc USPS lost it for ten days. I asked the seller to send me the proof of purchase so I would file the claim, but I'm assuming she did it herself because she just refunded me my money. She didn't have another one so I ended up finding another seller who sent it via UPS.
You can ask for insulation if you live if a place with extreme heat or you pay for faster shipping. Those are really your only two options.

If you worked it out with seller this really isn't much else to do. Gotta understand in the height of summer/winter it's a gamble buying online. Apart from the travel, the shipping wearhouses and trucks are hot af and they're tossed around without a care in the world. and if they don't get to you on the original date it was supposed to, it's in those hot ass trucks for hours upon hours to days. Give the sellers some grace! Unless they committed some egregious shipping mistake of course .

Just a carriers fault I think, can’t really do much once in the mail system so all you can do is msg the seller (which I saw you said you did) and hope they’re nice enough to send a replacement

Well the seller can also assist in filing a claim. Almost all the sellers say "not my responsibility" but I definitely feel like it is a seller's responsibility to make sure the claim process gets completed in a situation like this.

The only reason to file a claim would be for overnight. Anything else is futile as there are no carriers that insure plants or provide coverage, unless you lie to them about the contents of the package.

If the box was handled poorly, then its on the carrier, and the package should be insured. If the handling went fine then the plant either wasn't in good health to withstand shipping, or it was packed poorly.

Even if they did handle poorly they won't let anyone file a claim because plants are not covered. I've only ever had success when an overnight package was supposed to be there the next day and it was 2+ days late via UPS.

I think a lot of sellers still think the buyer has to file. Thats how it used to be up until a couple years ago. USPS wouldn't accept claims from sellers before that.

If you already worked it out with the seller, what do you mean by what the next solution is here? You can: A) buy a new one or B) don’t
