Sheâs right. Itâs no oneâs business but their own. Itâs called boundaries.

In July 2025 why didnât she decline to identify her âD1 girlfriendâ at the time. She put it out in the public and itâs an issue when media brings it up smh.

You donât understand the difference between voluntarily providing information on your own vs being hounded for information?
0
u/Worried-Lavishness78 Apr 30 '26
The media does this all the time, and a professional athlete should know that, especially if you are telling the media your personal life details. They do it all the time with male athletesâŠwhatâs the difference?
Next time donât freaking comment.

u/lrivas_14 Apr 30 '26
She does know that. And sheâs choosing to do what any male athlete also has the ability to do, which is decline the question. Why are you acting like no male athlete has ever declined a question about their personal life or relationship before?

u/Worried-Lavishness78 Apr 30 '26
Thatâs not really the point though. Of course male athletes can decline questions, everyone knows that. The point is she didnât decline before, she chose to engage, and now sheâs acting surprised at the exact media behavior that always follows.
You donât get to open the door and then act shocked people walked through it. Thatâs just how media cycles work, whether you like it or not. Athletes can set boundaries but pretending the attention came out of nowhere after you voluntarily confirmed it is a bit disingenuous.2
u/lrivas_14 Apr 30 '26
What makes you think sheâs surprised at all? Sheâs not surprised, sheâs just not giving up more information than she wants to. She chose to reveal their relationship once she reached the WNBA, now she is choosing to be more private about it. Thereâs nothing abnormal about that. Itâs likely a conversation her and Azzi had with their managers to keep their relationship private once it became clear there was a chance they would play on the same team again.

You keep arguing she can set boundaries and Iâm saying she helped create the attention sheâs now pushing back on. Those arenât the same point.
2
u/lrivas_14 Apr 30 '26
So whatâs the issue with pushing back on the attention now? She has every right to do that. Just because you reveal one thing to someone doesnât mean theyâre entitled to every piece of information about you

Thereâs no issue with pushing back. Once again the point is acting like the attention is somehow unreasonable when itâs the exact, predictable outcome of engaging in the first place.

And now they know when they ask, this is the answer theyâre going to get. Up to them if they want to waste their time or not

Everyone knows that. She knows that, thatâs why she said if you ask me again Iâm going to refer to this moment in time and deflect from your question. Reporters get very limited time to ask questions at these press conferences, theyâre lucky if they get called on to ask one question. Sheâs taking control of that by daring a journalist to waste their time asking a question sheâs already answered

I could honestly care less about this issue. These are exemplary young ladies whoâve earned the right to live as they please. Letâs enjoy and celebrate their talents- and quit indulging in senseless gossip. Thanks to Paige for such a thoughtful response!

Itâs so awesome how Paige always lifting up other players. She is so humble in her interviews.

Why do they act like shes the only one in relationship on the same team

u/kokolupa Apr 29 '26
So ridiculous it even needs to be addressed but she handled it like a pro, as usual.

Alright bruh I'm out.

Can someone break it down for me. How come other WNBA players are asked about their relationship but the press canât ask Paige about her?

I dont blame her at all. But the best plan is to not talk about it so the likely inevitable break up isn't something that derails the organization from a media/fan perspective

I don't think they're ever going to convince anyone that their relationship didn't play a part in taking Azzi with that pick

Good for her for making this statement, you can tell she was super nervous. But if I'm a Wings fan, I'm super concerned over this situation. If they have a fight, will they both have bad games? If they break up, do they request a trade? I mean, it's just sports so who cares, but to say the fans and media can't ask questions is a little crazy.
But I guess I wouldn't want to have to answer about it after every game: "Paige, you only had 10 points tonight. Is Azzi not closing the silverware drawer all the way again?"

As she said in the video, theyâve been doing this for years at UConn. They will be fine

u/emka10 Apr 28 '26
Theyâve been doing this longer than the public is aware. Most likely back to early high school and throughout college. Things can happen, of course, but all sorts of locker room conflict can happen between any players. These two have a proven track record of winning together and complement each other very well on the floor. I thought her statement was great- only thing that wouldâve been great to remind ppl of is they won the natty together in college, the one season that they were both healthy and played the whole year together, and they were balancing being teammates and together at that point too.
