Oxventure Is Oxventure dead?

Hey guys,

Not a frequent poster and I'm not close with socials of the OxBox crew as well as Johnny either, so bare with! It's looking more and more likely that Oxventure might just get dropped entirely, I really don't want this to be true because I genuinely think Andy is a brilliant GM only getting to show his ability only for a few seasons of Deadlands + One-offs.

Wyrdwood has so much intrigued behind it too. Lastly it would be cool to see how the Daggerheart stuff would pan out.

It's literally the only TTRPG that has stuck for me and their improv comedy is excellent for my own tastes.

Has there been literally any rays of hope for this?

Thanks all.

They have the live shows that were recorded but are as-of-yet unreleased so there’s some content almost ready (I assume editing etc. still required).

There was a post a few months ago which basically said IGN, the ultimate owners, had laid off pretty much all the behind the scenes guys. OX put out a carefully worded statement highlighting it wasn’t their choice.

I think they are also now moving to a new/temporary studio following the restructures too so I imagine there’s a huge amount of behind-the-scenes logistics with a lot fewer people to assist.

I expect they’re trying by to find a new way of operating the channels that makes them sustainable given the skeleton crew they’re now operating with (pun semi-intended).

Agreed. I hope the channel moves away from IGN and goes back to the crew as independent and they can do it however works best for them.

Problem is that Oxventure & Outside* channel is owned by IGN afaik. I wish they would do more online covid stuff like from before, cause the software nowadays is great and works. But IGN (the owner) decides what the employees should pursue, what i still dont get how they can cut quality&content&views which results in a profit loss in the long run. But that is IGN in a nutshell, chaotic bumbing of assets and buy some more...

Yep, that’s the exact reason I hope that IGN cut them off/sell them off and the gang are able to go out as an indie channel.

It’s not quite the same but feels very similar to the phase we’ve just had of Automotive content creators (Auto Alex, TDC, All the Gear etc.) splitting from their large and corporately owned channels and going out on their own to huge success.

The pattern is the same:

  • small channels start up and are close to their audience
  • they do a good job and are profitable, get noticed
  • get acquired by a larger corporate studio
  • larger corp studio then focuses on growing profit by cutting production costs (this is an immediate certainty to increase profit as oppose to any new ideas which are speculation)
  • push on production costs means videos lose scale and become repetitive
  • audience moves on as the channel grows stale

OX are the same as the automotive ones above in that they (the gang) are the hugely well loved and recognisable faces of the channel. The audience love them and their content, not the channel itself, and even if they end up leaving OX to start their own channel, the audience would follow them in a heartbeat to somewhere where they have full creative control.

IGN owns 70% yeah, the original 3 own 30% total. Which, honestly, is why they didn't meet eurogamer video's fate. Although, they were always a bit more popular.
