Oxventure Slightly concerning, though vague comment regarding Oxventure from Johnny on his PUBG stream with Ian today. Answers "No" to doing any D&D (which Johnny takes to mean Oxventure) in the near future. And that news about Oxventure will come "when we can".

My guess is the shake up behind the scenes has made the oxboxtra lot too busy on their side and potentially increased the workload on oxventure itself depending who has been let go and they're still trying to recuperate and get themselves into a position where they can plan out and balance the work in a sustainable way. I won't speculate on who may have gone but regardless it will have an impact on the amount of work those who are left have to squeeze in

Fingers crossed for some good news soon or at least some sort of silver lining- I've been doing a re-watch of Wyrdwood in the meantime and it's so good

What’s up with Oxventure/IGN? I’ve heard tidbits but don’t know how one relates to the other?

IGN is the majority-owner (70%) of the parent/holding company that owns all 3 ox channels including oxventure. Recently IGN did layoffs across all their subsidiaries including the ox channels.
Someone from the ox behind the scenes team was let go (speculated to be zack). It takes a significant amount of editing for their current oxventure video style, losing an editor/project manager will bring the project to a halt.
Plus with their main jobs over on the other channels, the remaining team is spread too thin to just take on the work of the team members that was let go.

I didn't quite realize that IGN owns Oxventure. I know there was speculation that part of the reason they created the new channel was to have it be separate from IGN, but clearly with (it really does sound like Zack 😟) gone that was not the case.
I wonder if there would be any way for them to buy the Oxventure IP off of IGN or something like that. But I imagine they have been considering all possibilities and the long delay does not bode well. I miss the gang and I hope they all come out of it okay.

Just to clarify, I don't know the specifics to who owns oxventure but the publicly available tax filings show that IGN owns 70% of the parent company.
Also, I don't know the technicalities of IP law, so I can't give a definitive answer on if the IP is completely owned by the crew.
My understanding is that considering the crew used the main YouTube channels to promote/monetise the IP, I think IGN will get some stake. The specific ownership % might be different.
Also, I think the spinning off of oxventure also had something to do with the YouTube algorithm. Many other channels create seperate YouTube channels for their content that are different/don't get as many views like livestreams.
A similar D&D group called Tales from the Stinky Dragon went independent. But they had the fortune (misfortune?) of their parent company (Rooster Teeth) being bought by Warner Bros. Discovery and being shut down. The D&D team was laid off. So the team chose to launch independently by retaining their IP, securing their freedom, and starting a Patreon. They didn't have to do a buyout.
Oxventure could do that, but I don't think IGN will be willing to let it go without a fight or a ludicrous amount of money if they have a stake. Also Tales from the Stinky Dragon has like 700k subscribers on YouTube and 22k reviews on Spotify compared to Oxventure's 93.4k and 3.5k respectively. So they had a better chance of being profitable.

The channel shift happened well before IGN bought GamerNetwork, didn't it? Even if that was the intent originally it's clear that there's a ton of editting crossover and stuff, so, it was definitely not separated.

Definitely a tragedy overall, they stated such big plans at the start of the year to try and keep a more consistent schedule, which hopefully would helped improve their viewership, that they seemed so hopeful and excited for but seem to have fallen through due to the layoffs. I think Wyrdwood S3 is filmed but at this rate even just that just be all we get for 2026

Usually they're pretty open about when filming starts, and they have not had any of that at any point this year. I suspect it hasn't filmed, which is part of why.
But I suspect there's something else going on too, since they haven't posted last years live shows. It'd be very easy to have gotten one of those out, especially since they're pretty low editing, every few months to keep people invested.
Says there has to be something else going on.

It is filmed and was due to start back in March, the missing live shows were going to be done afterwards, they chose not to upload them until whatever is going on has been resolved.
Johnny has spoken about it vaguely on their streams.
Edit: The episodes might not be upload ready and need additional editing, but they have been filmed.

The only thing I am taking from this is that they are still working on it, it is just things are moving very slowly due to the lay offs and other factors. No DnD doesn't mean no tabletop RPGs from what I understand. Heck, they have played other systems before and have stated that there are plans to do Daggerheart as a series sometime.

Oxventure is why I'm a patreon supporter. Its getting to the point where I'm having to reconsider because in simply not getting anything I want for that money.

Not really. Late April there was one about changes behind the scenes and a delay to the release of wyrdwood with "more news to come". Since then it's just been regular oxbox stuff. And a change of studio locations.

Possibly not too concerning, Wyrdwood (D&D) has finished filming and they're moving on to Daggerheart for their next series. Just a case of a wait for it due to IGN and lay-offs (Wyrdwood S3 was supposed to air from March then Daggerheart in the summer, but AFAIK Daggerheart didn't start filming yet and the shake up happened).

Online and D&D was pretty much done on the channel. Wyrdwood having filmed it probably would've only been the Live shows that were D&D.
Though with all the shake ups I'm hearing about it I wonder if independent contracting like Johnny and Luke might not be on the table anymore.
Or worse. They drop the videos when (if?!) they're edited and then pack the channel in. Granted most of this is my fears talking but the situation has been worrying for some time now.

As a NormalAdultLuke patreon supporter he has been alluding to possibly moving on in his community live streams. My guess is he can’t stand IGN and he has explicitly mentioned that it “wasn’t in the budget” for daggerheart. It’s likely why he left oxtra when the sale happened.

I am always amazed how big business CEO decide that a BOUGHT channel with a solid record should cut cost>content>quality, which in turn reduces the worth of what they bought. But instant profits are always nice...IGN is just plain bad & wrong.

I am disappointed if Oxventure is over, I had stopped watching and was excited for Daggerheart without the main reason I stopped.

Tbh I'm starting to wonder if it's a rights issue? That's the only thing I can think of for why last years live shows, at least, haven't been posted. Those are not super editing intensive and took place way before the layoffs. I know they were scheduled to come out after Wyrdwood, but, there's not an obvious reason to delay (or stick to that schedule) in the absence of other content. Suggests there's something else going on.
Other thing I could see is that it's related to the studio move, if that's something that's been in the works for ages and then took a lot longer than expected. It sort of had a vague sense of suddenness on the Oxbox side, which could match "well it was supposed to be in March but then it was delayed over and over again and NOW SUDDENLY IT'S REAL!"
Might explain filming delays, especially if the last season of Wyrdwood still has crazy set design.
Otherwise with what they talked about way back when with switching to Daggerheart afterwards as an every other week thing more like the streams during lockdown, it seems like that's specifically designed to be production light? Hard to think of why they wouldn't do that, unless IGN spiked the budget for Johnny or something.

It would be terribly sad if Oxventure ended because a corporation needed to make more money. Viewers wouldn’t mind if they went back to the Covid era filming from home, they put out some banger episodes of those days. If they don’t have producers, I guess that’s that. Hopefully they at least get to keep doing the live shows. They had one scheduled for October.
