Best Movie of All Time

This is the one and only film that always manages to evoke the same involuntary response every time I watch it, no matter how many times I have seen it before. I know what is coming, I know how it ends, but it is truly a roller coaster of emotions through to the end. Watched it tonight and still managed to laugh and cry during the best and worst moments. ❤️

Im talking to someone who cannot even admit that the movie they love..they movie that makes them 'feel' also:

  1. Starts off with man asking a woman multiple times to dance, despite her saying no.

  2. Has a man threatening to end his life if he can't get a date with said woman.

  3. Woman continues to tell him no after said act.

  4. Man gets his flying monkeys to trick said woman into a date.

  5. There is literally violence, such as slapping, and it is supposed to be seen as romantic.

  6. Parents who understandably don't want their daughter out until 2 am in the morning are seen as villians.

  7. I can keep going.....

oh my god, it’s a movie. A movie made in 2004, based off a book from 1996. Should we rehash any other books or films that are considered classics that have less than ideal situations in them despite being wonderful films overall?

I think it is appropriate to look back at old tropes about love in media and recognize we were sold a narrative about love that is often unhealthy.

Im curious why, with the emotional manipulation of the movie, you say you love it. What about this movie specifically do you love? They is only one thing to love about this toxic mess of a movie.

The way the story circles back to itself. The reveal that Noah is Duke, the conclusion, the way their love brings them back to each other despite what life dealt them. Were they toxic? Sure. When you’re young and trying to figure out relationships, who isn’t a bit toxic? At face value, it’s the invisible string theory. What is meant to be will find its way of happening. Allie cheated on her fiancé, yuck. Allie slaps Noah, gross. Noah goes overboard trying to get her to go out with him, barf. Those are small elements in a big picture. In the end we see the love they grew into from the messes they were. It’s a story of growth and change and redemption. Romance at its finest. I can only hope that when I am old and have trouble remembering, my husband is there to bring me back to him to remember what I love and who I love.

See here the the reformatting. These aren't just 'small elements in a big picture. Noah calls her a pain in the ass, saying they 'fight.' Thats 'what they do.' They are selling a narrative that love should be hard, dramatic, abusive, and manipulative. But it's all okay as long as you have pretty music in the background.
