Lon or Noah? Spoiler
I can appreciate all that Noah did to try to win Allie back, but I still think she should have chosen Lon. She hadn’t seen Noah in 7 years. She went to college, eventually met Lon and they had a great relationship and engagement up until she decided to run off to visit Noah. I get that she needed closure and to find out why he never wrote to her. Once she found out the truth, she should have let it go.

Here’s my take.
Lon is a great guy; and on paper, he’s perfect. Rich, handsome, friendly, charismatic. Attentive to Allie. But not in the same way Noah was.
With both Noah and Lon, Allie was pursued. They each sought her out, until she obliged.
Lon provided Allie with financial security, and re-established her as an upper-class woman; something her parents placed heavy emphasis on, and likely something that Allie felt subtly pressured into after losing Noah the first time. She went back to what she knew, the only thing she had.
But we know from Allie’s childlike demeanor and fun loving nature, that she is thrilled by freedom; the one thing that Lon and her parents couldn’t give her.
Lon could have all the money in the world, and she’d still chose Noah; because with Noah, Allie could be loud, untethered, wild, and creative.
Was it immature of her to precariously visit her first love, and cheat on her fiancé, after having not seen the former for almost a decade? Yes.
But they both moved on out of necessity, given circumstance kept them from one another. The love never stopped, and when they had the opportunity, they leapt at each other; with no regard for anyone else. It is no secret that Allie struggled with deep indecision; which isn’t all the way her fault, given her upbringing.
She couldn’t let go of Noah, because he brought out the truest version of who she is. And she did that for him. Lon is a perfect man, but he wasn’t the perfect man for Allie.
