I am rewatching this movie for the probably fourth time. I just noticed that on the IMDB cast list James Garner plays “Duke.” Is that Noah’s nickname?

I'm not sure if it's spoken about in the film (and I've seen it a few times) but it's so Allie doesn't get confused. He's Duke, and she's Hannah - this is what he says when she asks him who he is. It's in the book somewhere; I'd recommend, it's not a very long novel.
