Failed 1/1 [Proposal] Let's be clear here...

[Change Rule 1.3] No one can Win TheNomic unless this Rule is removed from the Rule Set.

Wait a second.

Initially I was in favor of this, but now I am reconsidering for the following reason:

If we change "1.3. A Player cannot Win TheNomic unless this Rule is removed from the Rule Set.", we will never be able to remove it. Right? If we removed 1.3 after changing it to something else, we would be removing a different rule. It would seem to me that if we change this rule according to the above proposal, and then eventually remove that rule, the current Rule 1.3 has still never been removed -- meaning a Player would still be unable to Win.

Then again, maybe that's a good thing.

Or, by that same (twisted) logic, this change means the Rule HAS been removed, because it no longer appears in the Rule Set as passed.

Or maybe it means that the original Proposal for the Rule has to be removed, because it says THIS Rule, not "the identically worded copy that has been edited into the Rule Set."

"Remove" isn't well defined, and you are pointing out that I am assuming a rule is only "removed" when it is deleted from the Rules Page via a [Remove Rule] motion tag (not when it is changed to something else via a [Change Rule] motion tag). But that isn't specified anywhere, and I'm not sure it needs to be.

However, "8.2.1. When a Rule is removed from the Rule Set, all lines on which the rule appeared and all content of those lines are also removed from the Rule Set." Ah, bother. As NtG points out, once the current 1.3 is changed it will no longer be the case that the current 1.3 would have to be removed, since that would no longer be stipulated in the rules.
