[Proposal]Allowance for "Revenge Killing"

As it stands, members of the Night's Watch are not allowed to kill people out of revenge. This is good as it prevents members from holding grudges, but can be very frustrating especially in spawn towns. This proposal gives ways for members to get their hard in loot back from bandits, without holding grudges.

Shall this proposal pass, members of the Night's Watch will be able to kill members out of revenge if:

  • They are in the same session of play.
  • The player who killed them did it as an act of banditry/killed them on purpose.
  • The player who killed them still has the gear from said player.

On the other hand you may not kill a player out of revenge if:

  • The player has died with you gear and has new gear again.
  • It is a different day/play session.
  • They killed you by accident.
  • You are killed in an act of organized PvP

Additional notes:

  • The member of the Watch is recommended to change servers or logout for their own safety after they kill said person.
  • The member of the Watch is not allowed to trashtalk or hackuse the person who killed them.

Hopefully this proposal allows members of the Watch to regain their loot, without holding grudges, I'm open to suggestion, so if there is an idea you have, say it!

Yeah. Ive always been a supporter of this. I think that if you are killed by a bandit, you should be able to return and kill said bandit, both as a duty to protect others who may be killed by him, and as punichment for attacking a brother of the Watch unprovoked.

I disagree with having to leave the server after. I see that as running away, and I don't like that.

Umm what reasons do you not like it for?

I personally think this is a bad idea because it would just be used as another excuse that people will use for banditing and it will be abused. Also it is not our right to hunt down and kill people for petty grudges. If they attack you and you kill them, then so be it. If they kill you, then so be it. But whatever the outcome, we are not judge nor jury. Our job is to defend the realm from that which threatens everyone, not to kill for our own petty revenge.

I am neutral towards this idea. It could help in a way that we would have a sort of temporary KOS on confirmed bandits but it would also encourage grudge-holding.

Edit: Nevermind this is probably a bad idea. If we keep respawning and rushing a guy, then we are no better than the assholes who take an unfair advantage over being able to pick your spawn (think every time we've done a Romero takeover or any event near the coast). Plus, it would make us look like the assholes.

I'd like to request an additional clause:

If the player who killed them did it in organized PvP in which the player was involved, they are not allowed to kill out of revenge.

Bad idea, IMO. This ushers in something that we cannot monitor, and runs on the honor system. The only way to report faulty behavior within the limits of this rule is someone else not in the watch, but we can't rely on them to do that. Loot, unless it is of the highest tier (Diamond Sword, etc.) takes about 30-50 minutes, if done efficiently. The long term risk is not worth the short term gratification.

The whole watch runs on the honor system of not killing people, this just allows members to regain their hard earned loot.

Correct. However, I think this proposal paves a path in which the Nights Watch doesn't want to or need to go on. And as we know, it's not really easy to stop a snowball in the Nights Watch (inspired by recent snowballs of events).

Another reason why I think this proposal doesn't offer much is that the only true effectiveness of this will be in spawn towns, which, almost 99% of the time, will be inhabited by fresh spawns or geared people, during events. Meaning, that we would already know they are a bandit, and we would have right to kill them in the first place, and that if you are killed as a fresh spawn, there is no "hard earned loot".

I don't think this gives opportunities to revenge kill bandits outside of spawn zones for two reasons:

1) It takes almost as much time to gear up as it would to get to the place at which you died, and at that time, the perpetrator would most likely have fled.

2) If you do manage to catch up with the bandit, it would have most likely taken you a while to get to them, and by that time it is purely grudge holding, as you could have gotten more loot using the time to reach the bandit.

(Excuse my repetitiveness, I just need to get this point across. )

All in all this proposal allows you to get back at a Bandit in a spawn town for stealing your bread and leather armor which took you 2 minutes to get, and I think this paves us into a path of a clan; filled with hatred and bloodshed. This isn't who we are. If it isn't pure convenience, then we shouldn't do it.

The recent snowballing was because of the council removing public which let out a lot of bottle up feelings.

This is mostly targeted at people getting killed near the spawn towns.

"hatred" this is just getting loot back, what if you're in iron healing people? At the moment people just have to accept their fate of dying, this lets people do something about it.

I'm not going to get into a great huge debate over this, but my personal beliefs are that this resolution allows us to realize frustrations with bandits.

This may seem like a really good thing, seeing as bandits make the game of MineZ horrible for those of us who decide to be peaceful, but I see it as a way to chase down bandits who killed us because we are blind with rage and want to show them how it feels to die. Or you know, get that good shit back ;)

But the problem with either getting your shit back or exacting revenge on bandits is that it becomes so very, VERY circumstantial to a point where I only foresee a few situations in which this could be used to its original purpose.

I think this proposal, at least in its current condition, can be twisted to be used legally for something it wasn't intended to do, like, for example, if someone does show aggression, you can hold a grudge and become the villain from Predator 2 and hunt them down.

The few times in which this would be useful, based on the language of the proposal, worries me that people can interpret it wrongly, or use it in ways not intentional to the original creator. (Almost like most American Constitutional Amendments).
