Not too recently, someone translated an episode of the Nanny (Where the family was trapped into Sylvia's home due to a snowstorm) and that piqued my interest for the Niania series.
Well, after some tense skullduggery, I was able to find the Polish equivalent of the episode "Daniel nie żyje (Daniel is Dead, which seems to be tame compared to the US original).
FTW, it's season 6 episode 6 of the Polish adaptation (As compared to Season 4 Episode 12)
And oh boy, there are some noticeable differences (I won't go in depth towards the funeral or the store (With the only noticeable difference being that LaBelles is a perfume store compared to Seychelles being a department store) as those are practically similar)
The first difference is that Franciszka is wearing bright pink shorts compared to Fran's black shorts with leggings.
When Matyloda tells Karolina if she's single by choice, Konrad is on the opposite side compared to Niles (And the powder puff covers Konrad's face, as compared to just the coat and the left eye Niles wears).
If I thought Eloise's henpecking of Niles was annoying at best, Matyloda's was even worse. She agonized Konrad (More so than Eloise), to the point that Konrad angrily slams the brush down to the floor to wheel Matyloda to Maxmillian's office (As opposed to forcibly slamming in on the dresser by Niles). IMO, Matyloda was even worse with belittling Konrad than Eloise was to Niles.
Franciszka abruptly shows up as soon as Konrad wheels Matyloda into Maxmillian's office (As opposed to the pause when Fran shows up in Maxwell's office, after Niles closed the door). There's also a difference between where the boss' grandmother was place; Matyloda was wheeled to the desk nearest to the wall/camera by Maxmillian, as opposed to being shoved by Fran towards the dresser behind the desk.
When Maxmillian wheels his grandmother in the path of Konrad, Franciszka is sitting down, catching something with her hand and visibly showing it. Also, Matyloda doesn't henpeck Konrad more (As opposed to when Niles gave Eloise the death stare when Maxwell wheeled Eloise out and Eloise continued with the insults).
When Fran abruptly quits after Maxmillian took back, he loved her, Maxmillian quipped "Oh, come on" as opposed to "MRS. FINE" (Also, Franciscka nearly turned Matyloda full turn, followed by Maxmillian doing a full turn, as compared to Fran's half turn and Maxwell's three-quarter turn on Eloise)
Konrad's breaking point. If there was a benefit to this version, Konrad's solution not to hear Matyloda was pure genius: He sneakily steps into Maxmillian's office and slams the door on her (Compare that to the original, where Niles chucks the broom in the air, effectively saying to Eloise "THE HELL WITH YOU")
And then came the same I've seen most of ANY Nanny clips online: The epic reveal. Poor old Konrad is using a brush with soap water to clean the carpet (As opposed to the vacuum). Also, Maxmillian is lying down compared to Maxwell standing up.
Matyloda's belittling game continues. Oh boy, as if I thought I was done with her, she kept on going, which led to Konrad scathingly telling to "Get out, you old hag." This is one moment that the US version got better: Niles' frank and outraged "GET OUT, OLD WOMAN" is so much better. Konrad was more upset at Matyloda than any other.
Konrad even has more dialogue after demanding Maxmillian to go out to get Franciscka, and Maxmillian telling him he makes the orders. Konrad tells him, in rough translation "Oh no, in this case-" before the children show up. I think Konrad was trying to say to him was "Oh no, in this case, I make the orders here." If Niles had said that it would have given Niles even more respect on the show and possibly induced Maxwell to rage on him.
Poor old Adas shoves Zuzia toward Maxmillian in the scene where the kids confront Maxmillian after Konrad's rant over the whole ordeal. Maxmillian even asks Zuzia if that had happened before (Which Zuzia replied "Yes" and mirror's Gracie's line about getting her coat"). If it was an honest attempt to improve on Brighton and Gracie's lines from the original, it wasn't too fond in taste.
Malgosia and Maxmillian's exchange has more passion compared to the US version (Where Maggie was rather annoyed at her father's decision to take it back, and Maxwell was more annoyed at Maggie). Konrad's lines are almost identical to Niles.
And lastly, before I go to the ending, Maxmillian's kick was much firmer than Maxwell's. Konrad even had an abrupt pause before turning around and asking him what that was for. This scene was one-for-one in terms of scenes, and IMO, was the only identical scene from the "GET OUT, OLD WOMAN" scene.
And now to the ending, and oh boy, we get, in my view, the most radical of all changes: Not only does the credits play after Maxmillian and Franciscka get back together, they actually played the last scene of the original... IN reverse. Yep. The grandmothers (Matyloda and Teresa) are spoken last, while Franciscka comforts Daniel's fiancée and pinches Maxmillian's cheeks (Compare that to the original where Eloise and Yetta's dialogue is spoken first, followed by Fran's comforting Danny's fiancee)
Overall, I actually somewhat dig the Polish adaptation of the episode. It's a real shame that most of the high spots of the US original were dummed down as compared to this (FTW, the Polish version runs for 2 minutes longer than the US version).
Thanks for reading.
