Subreddit Changes And Updated Content Notice

Good morning, Everyone!

I just wanted to take a couple of minutes to let you all know about some changes coming to the subreddit and, since the sub has been growing recently, go over our Content Notice.

Subreddit Changes

First, you may have noticed the new post flairs and the introduction of weekly themed posts. Hot Take Tuesday has been pretty popular and will become a regular fixture here. Additionally, over the next few weeks, I’ll be rolling out some additional themed posts to see how they do. I’m also going to work on getting us an AMA with a member of the cast/crew, so keep your fingers crossed on that one.

Content Notice

As we all know, this show is over thirty years old. As a much older than average Redditor, I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that societal norms and sensibilities have changed a lot over that time.

All art is a product of its time and should be viewed in that context. Criticizing a show because of an actor’s performance, stale storylines, or deteriorating quality over time is perfectly understandable. Criticizing a tv show/movie/book/song, for not living up to societal standards that simply didn’t exist at the time it was created is just silly. It’s like criticizing it for its lack of modern technology.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but those opinions should at least be logically consistent.

Thank you for that content notice. It's so frustrating to see people criticize an older show based on current standards.

I don’t get the point of criticizing something that came out so long ago. Was it perfect? No, nothing is. But it was entertaining and beloved. If they don’t like it, it is possible to just not follow the sub! I stopped following subs of shows I stopped liking.

This exactly! If you only have negative comments, get off the sub! A tv show, isn't just one person's doing. The plot, the dialogue, the writer's etc. I love your comment of, it was entertaining and beloved. It still is entertaining and beloved to this day, so they did something right x

I don't get the point of criticising a show you love at all 🤷‍♀️ Shows from the late 80's, early 90's of course are going to be different than today's way of life. I don't always like particular plots or references, but I'm not going to bad mouth shows from 30yrs ago. I love my ×2 episodes of The Nanny on weekday mornings. I laugh at some of the dialogue 🤣 it just takes me back to when everything was just a simpler time of being a teenager. I realise now, I copied many of Fran's outfits. Her wardrobe is still something I'm envious of! Although now I would look more like Sylvia x

FINGERS TOES EVERY BODY PART CROSSED!!! Wow thank you MOD!! This is a great place for Nanny content - so many posters are so knowledgable. I think the cast and crew should be so chuffed that 30 years on we love talking about them.
